The Smithereens: Especially For You

Nothing fancy, just good straight forward rock record, leaning to the power popish. For my money, the best thing these guys ever did. It's got the hits Blood & Roses and Behind the Wall of Sleep on here. Also wanna add that I wasn't expecting anything all that special turning out to watch them play after this release but ti was really one of the better concerts I can recall. Great live band...or at least they were that night.

How's that Ike Reilly?

I really like Salesmen and Racists a lot, but recently picked up the most recent two, We Belong to the Staggering evening and Poison the Hit Parade and was fairly disappointed comparatively. Both decent but for me quite a step below.

How's Sparkle stack up?

It took awhile before they all clicked with me, even Salesmen which is just ridiculously great. In my opinion, Sparkle never quite hits the heights of that album either, but is still pretty fucking good. 11 songs in 40 minutes, it's in and out leaves you wanting more.

You really didn't like Staggering?

I don't dislike it. I have really only played it kinda casually once so should give it more chances. I just really liked Salesmen and Racists a ton and in the comparison the other two aren't really going to get played much since when I think...Oh, I'd like to hear some Ike Reilly right now...what I mostly mean at this point is...I'd like to hear Salesmen and Racists.

I hear you. It's like if you're in the mood for Stones, you know what album is going to take care of that particular scratch.

Nice. That Richard Davies was reviewed in the first CMJ I bought.

That Barry Adamson is the only one I own of his.

Oedipus Schmoedipus is well-worth owning, if you're looking into more Barry Adamson stuff. I'm also always on the lookout for a cheap copy of Moss Side Story and Back to the Cat (which I've heard are even better).
He's just a badass.

Can't get enough of the former, and trying the latter on for size once again...

Haven't noticed much love here for Felice Bros, but listening to the new one and I LIKE it.
