Everytime I dine out, I am always surprised to see couples sitting side by side at a table. There is no other couple involved, just the two individuals. Personally, I prefer to sit across from my mate so that I can look at them directly vs have to twist in my chair and bump elbows.

Next to usually.

But it really depends on how big the table is.

But then again, she wants to be closer to my food.

But mostly it's to be closer to each other. We're on such opposite schedules that when we get to eat together, it's nice.

Chicks freak me out when they do this while driving.

Some other halves you probably don't want to look at while you are eating.

I'm six foot, over 200 lbs and left-handed. It's easier to sit across than side by side.

Plus I've been married for almost 17 years, So there's that, too.

next to?

What do you do if the table is small, or against a wall?

Sit on adjacent sides?

You guys are fucked.

Across if it's just the 2 of us, but side by side in a larger group.

Yeah, I cannot fathom sitting side by side if it's just the two of us.

Couples that sit side by side are going to be having sex before the night is over.

Or perhaps one of the two is insecure and possessive. Probably a 50-50 toss-up, guesswise. Half the couples could be happily intimate, the other half might be dysfunctional. Might lead to sex either way, I suppose.

Id bet that couples who sit next to each other on one side are the same sort that get each other's names tattooed on their arms, make out all the time in public, and talk to each other in baby voices. Everyone knows a few of these annoying couples. I'm not sure who they are trying to convince.

My wife likes to sit side by side. I don't mind, but unless she says something, I usually sit across from her. Depends on the restaurant, size of the table, etc. It's good to vary it up some.

I voted option 1, anyway.

Yes. That's the 50-50 part. Just saying timmy makes a big assumption assuming it all leads to sex. It might lead to yelling and the throwing of personal objects at heads and statements like "for the last time, I'm not fucking sleeping around. I don't give a shit what your mother keeps telling you." Uh...and then maybe sex.

Depends on the table. Both Mrs. Kingfish and I like having our backs to a wall so we'll sit accordingly in order to please this desire. If unattainable, we go across from one another.

What's really creepy is the couple who has been married so long that they eat an entire meal together in a restaurant and not say a word to each other. Just sit in silence.

this happened to my (then) wife and i a few years ago

we sat adjacent to an older couple who ate in complete stoic silence. then before they left, the lady got up and laid a $20 on our table and said the lord told her to pay for our meal

There's still plenty you can do to be affectionate to one another more covertly, which is better for everyone involved. Plus you don't look like tools.
