I dont listen to a lot of 60's or 70's bands these days, but recently ive been exploring the Moody Blues, and im really impressed. Whereas most bands from that time only have a couple songs that i like, the Moody Blues were great at creating full length albums that are great the whole way through. Their classic seven - 'Days of future passed' to 'Seventh sojourn' are all great. Sort of a romantic, orchestral, and somewhat progressive sound - and it works. Probably not a band thats got a lot of discussion on this board, but i think theyre worth bringing up. Any listeners out there?

I really recommend in particular 'Days of future passed', 'to our children's children children' and 'a question of balance'

Probably my least favorite band of all time.

Let's see here- they made that album with an orchestra in 1967, then one without an orchestra in 1968, then On the Threshold of a Dream in 1969. From that point forward, they remade Threshold and sold it as new albums for 2 or 3 decades by changing the album name and song titles. On of my top 5 Drano groups.

My dad's favorite band.
I just know the hits, really.

I'll admit to kind of liking a couple of songs.

But I think they're largely responsible for a lot of the most dubious aspects of prog rock. Or it seems like they were the one of the ones who tried out a lot of bad ideas first.

I was gonna donate some money to PBS once, but they were going to force me to accept a Moody Blues videotape along with my coffee mug.

I'll give them a hearty...not quite as bad as Jethro Tull.

Well we haven't had a Emerson Lake and Palmer thread yet either, so we can go lower.

Also, I'm going to put all my money on Mayor of Simpleton calling everyone out.

Only thing worse than Jethro Tull is Van Halen.

Kudos to you--it takes some courage to admit that you enjoy the Moody Blues these days.

I was a big fan when I was a kid, I listened to their albums long after my parents stowed them away. Not such a big fan anymore though, the orchestration is too syrupy for me.

This one always makes me smile though:

Trilogy and Brain Salad Surgery are both great albums. Now that you mention it, I'm gonna toss some ELP on.

wow pretty much no positive feedback whatsoever. I probably chose the wrong board to discuss this band.
some of the bands that get critical praise from that era - King Crimson, Procal Harum etc - arent as good in my opinion, maybe because i feel the melodies and the complete album efforts by the Moodies to be better.

As for it being syrupy and oatmill etc, ill see if i feel that way in a couple months, but for now i really enjoying the band. To be honest, their sound clicks with me more than the Beatles, who i find too 'sing-songy' for my tastes.

Okay, now we know you're pulling our collective leg. Good one.

It's a week late for April Fools though.
