I could do this but I just don't anymore. It's easier that way.

I'll bite.

I was surprised that the 2 LP comp that recapitulates their first 7 albums had as many solid songs as it did. They were usually better off when Hayward and Lodge wrote straight-forward songs. Question of Balance has a hell of a bridge.

That said, Edge's poetry and songwriting is absolutely insufferable and Thomas is pretty damned hit-or-miss. I disagree that the albums hang together well, I think they are framed in absurdly pretentious clothes more frequently than Yes albums are, and that's really saying something.

Oddly, the glue of that band's classic lineup might be Pinder, who also wrote a good song here and there. IIRC his absence is really felt after the classic 7.

Long Distance Voyager ain't a bad early 80s foray either, if only for "The Voice". Plus they brought in Patrick Moraz :)

thanks for your thoughts. Interesting to hear who you think the better songwriters are, im not too sure at this stage who wrote each of the songs i like, but most often i find it is Hayward or Lodge. Rare for a band to have all of the members write songs.
Ill check out Long Distance Voyageur, but have been warned on another board that the quality really drops after the classic 7.
