I went to Criminal Records Record Store day thing last year here in Atlanta and it was pretty cool. Saw The Coathangers, Anna Kramer and the Lost Cause, and Noot d' Noot. They had a whole outdoor stage going on.

PBR was a sponsor of the thing so there was cheap beer but I thought they could do better than that with so many good local breweries here.

I've checked around and can't find the line up for this year's yet. I'll be down there though at some point.

how'd you like the coathangers?

Good shit. I actually saw 'em twice that weekend. At Lenny's Bar the night before opening for the Selmanaires.

I'm sure there are bands like theirs in every big city where they're aping the same schtick but they're cute enough to pull it off for now.

Something about chicks singing simple songs about "nestling in my boobies","punching girls in the twat", and "don't touch my shit" is pretty appealing. It all seems like an inside joke and tossed off but done in a punk rock DIY style that seems genuine.

Haven't heard the new one yet. It's been getting mixed reviews so far.

yeah, i saw them last year sometime. i enjoyed 'em.

i'm not sure i like the new one that much. it sounds like they've regressed and there's a lot of chords that seem off. it's good but parts reminded me of the shaggs. :nono:

RECORD store day, not CD store day.

A RECORD being a recording, not just a piece of grooved vinyl.

Or as slang for a vinyl record as in not a compact disc.

Or as slang for collected albums of music in any form whatsoever. Don't be pedantic, it's not about the medium, it's about the people and places selling the stuff.

If you guys want ANY of these, get there when your store opens.

Let me say it again: GET THERE WHEN YOUR STORE OPENS.

My store for some reason put the record store stuff out today and it was FLYING off the shelves. Most of the stuff I was interested in had already sold out and I was there at 5:00 the day BEFORE Record Store Day. And I live in a small city.

This shit is going to be worth some money.

I think mine did but I'm not positive since a bunch of stuff wasn't there. The guy said they had sold out of a lot already though.

The record stores around here are having little mini festival sorta things. I'll probably hit up the place where they got Jason of Jason & The Scorchers playing and they're selling beer and bar-b-q.

Vintage Vinyl? They're advertising free PBR. I'm still debating whether or not to go to either VV or Euclid Records tomorrow. Depending on how smashed I get tonight, maybe neither.

Yeah, free PBR at vintage. But I'll probably end up at Euclid instead. Way better music going on I think. Jason's at Euclid. I don't see my day starting too early either though. They also got stuff going on at APOP, which is super close for me so if I'm totally hung over, I may just wander over there.

I'll just add:

The packaging for the Jesus Lizard 7 inch set is awesome and it's limited to 2000 copies.

I just noticed that the Bottle Rockets are playing at Euclid at 6. I skipped their show back in December, so I might try to force my lazy ass to get there for this.

But I went to two concerts last weekend, so I'm also kinda worn out and just wanna chill at home this weekend. Fuck.

BACK!

I hope everyone has better luck than me. They had a bunch of vinyl goodies. The Loney Dear/Andrew Bird split tempted me for a second but that's about it. Nothing else really enticed me (they didn't have the Modest Mouse 7" and the SY/Beck 7" was snagged before i got there).

So I went to look for the Bee Gees 1st album, but they didn't have it, so I got Love's Da Capo album. I also picked up a Boris The Sprinkler cd in the dollar bin, so that was cool. and then i got some freebies (they didn't have a lot this year) and one of them was a Franz Ferdinand 12".

So anyway, that's that. Happy hunting everyone!

I hit 2 stores this morning and got most everything I wanted (neither store had Andrew Bird/Lonely Dear or Metric 7"s). The first store I hit gave out goodie bags with something like 14 sampler CDs.

bort, The Modest Mouse 7" has been delayed.

well, it didn't take me long to look at their small display of stuff. and it didn't take me long to find what i wanted on the regular shelves. no big surprises, and not a lot of freebie swag. it was like going to the store to get milk and bread. keep in mind i really like milk and bread though.

Walked in and right back out of Grimey's in Nashville. Saw Patrick for a second and said hi. I'm in Knoxville now.

Grimey's compound was insanely packed. I'm guessing 1,000 people? Avett Bros. had just finished playing when we walked up.

i also won some goodie bag full of a lot of useless crap (samplers, asher roth beer cup and shot glass, some horror movie t-shirt)
