I saw a paper here this morning on the subway saying the pirates are vowing revenge against France and the US, because we killed those guys.

I believe their stance was "we don't kill, we just hold people hostage and collect ransom." And therefore, when we shot 3 of them in the head as they held an ak47 to the captain on the 5th (?) day of holding him hostage on a lifeboat, we acted improperly.

to 'vow revenge' for getting your guys killed, when you repeatedly make heavily-armed raids against merchant ships...someone kinda needs to set the tone

Does seem a bit unrealistic to tote around rocket launchers and ak's and hold prisoners belonging to countries with massive, massive military power, and get your feelings hurt when someone gets shot. I mean, kudos for trying, but still.

Seriously, how is this captain now a hero-type? If you hold a money-handling job the first thing you're told is always cooperate with a robber. Insurance will take care of it.

It sounds to me like this guy was uncooperative from the beginning. After jumping overboard twice he's lucky the pirates didn't kill him right away.
