My cred is shattered.

Man, metal rap was HUGE here in 98/99. I started college here, and I was floored by how many of these ATL urban art school types were all about the Korn and Limp Bizkit.

Did you ever see some local band called Justin Hale (or however they spelled it) around that time? Jesus. They were everywhere. They always opened for PH Balance, I think. There are some aspects of college that I am definitely NOT nostalgic about.

Please. I dare you to dig up 10 threads on Obner started before 07' and not started by Twilight Kid that discussed the merits of metal seriously and were not popptoddlike threads of nostalgia.

There aren't many metal fans here now. I don't see some massive big trend of ironic hipster metal-embracing going on now. (If anything, that happened prior to 2007.) Now, of the handful of people who talk about metal on here, you've got Dalen and Twilight Kid and maybe one or two others who are old school metal fans and always have been, cemetarypolka who is apparently immersed in some mid-Atlantic death metal crowd, and maybe a handful of other people who like some of it here and there or just enjoy going to see some of it live. It's not like metal hysteria has taken over this board. Most of the metal threads are still started by Twilight Kid.

Metal fandom tends to persist irrespective of trends.

I honestly don't know what to say. If you can't see the major influx of metal as cool on obner, then there's nothing for me to say. Other than when's the last time you've been to the eye doctor. Or you've just confirmed Rad's long time contention that no one reads obner beyond their own posts. Or maybe you're just dead set on arguing with me regardless of what I say.

Maybe you can help me out then. Other than one or two lengthy threads from a little while back, I really haven't seen a huge amount of metal discussion on this board. I think it just happens that two of the few dudes here who still start a lot of music threads (Twilight and Dalen) are both pretty big into metal. And there have been a couple of big metal fests lately which sparked some discussion, but I don't think those festivals are the result of some hipster trends. I mean, maybe, if Scion thinks that putting on a big festival of metal bands is going to attract their kind of crowd, somebody must think there's a big hipster metal trend going on. Really I think that was just a very misguided marketing ploy, although one that supposedly made for a great free festival.

Metal is hugely popular in several parts of the world and has been for a long time. Maybe in the US it's become sort of in vogue again among the kids, and that's what you're annoyed with. I just don't see that as a big issue with this board specifically, especially compared to some other places.

There aren't evev any metal pages on the first page, unless you count this one. It just seems like a weird time to complain about it.

They just need to hold out through hipster nostalgia for Harvey Danger coming around the bend before Obner will accept them.

I can't tell an appreciable difference in quality between Limp Bizkit and say any metal band that obner wacks it to these days.

I don't know what you're talking about. it's just that metal is cool and I'm old enough to not like something just because I want to have a cool image. (I am cool by nature)
altogether metal is not really strong represented on this board, you may check the last year album top ten. I'm sure everybody who comments on metal in a positive way here, would have done that 10 years ago as well.

it must be some strange phobia which let you see everything biased... do you have this "problem" with other music styles, too?

Huh? You must really not pay attention much. What do I like that is even remotely like Alan Parsons.

i gotta agree with Drinky on this one. there are maybe 10 people on here who talk about metal.

it's as ridiculous as saying "Obner thinks country is cool now"

and i feel that there is a difference between liking something because its trendy and admitting to liking something that you might not otherwise do at another time. i would die for Boston, and i love them unironically with all of my heart. i probably wouldnt be so quick to shout this out 5 or 10 years ago but at this point i could really give a shit. once you get to your 30s you just stop caring

Shitty music...That's hilarious. I bet you just crack the boys up at the post office.

Do you have a spread sheet with all your tired and over-used insults? I think you used the Rads/follower jokes up with Gar 2 years ago. But if you think I follow his taste that's only further proof that you're not reading the board.
