i put off my entire record shopping budget (more or less) until today. i went to a bunch of shops, picked up the good swag, searched for hours, and came home with a pretty nice lot.

I skipped out on Record Store Day, just because I hate crowded shopping experiences...

I did, however, go on a nice record spree Friday night - watch the "Vinyl" thread for an update...

Didn't get too much,as the two stores I checked out didn't have much to begin with.
Did pick up the Flaming Lips/Black Keys 7",and The Hold Steady DVD.
Had already pre-ordered the Wilco DVD.Didn't see the My Morning Jacket.
Oh,and today picked up Dark Was the Night at Borders for 50% off.

got the GBV Hold On Hope reissue (obviously :))
the Gomez 7"
the Camera Obscura 7"

then while browsing got an old Chavez single and the Thelonious Monk DVD from a few years back.

then caught some DJs spinning in front of Vintage Vinyl.

'twas allright.

one of the singles i bought on saturday is mislabeled. it's supposed to be "piece of my heart" by erma franklin. it's not. i think it's another erma franklin song, but i've never heard it. and since the print is a reissue, i'm having a hell of a lot of trouble figuring it out. anyone else ever had mislabeled music?

The one at Criminal Recrods here in Atlanta has really gotten on board with this thing in a big way. They did it even bigger this year. I've yet to really find really great deals on stuff as a result of them putting on this thing but the local bands are really behind it seems.

Here was the lineup for their day:

11:00AM – Death on Two Wheels
12:00PM – Thy Mighty Contract
1:00PM – Carolina Chocolate Drops
2:00PM – Mike Farris & the Roseland Rhythm Revue
3:00PM – Ocha La Rocha
4:00PM – Noot d’Noot
5:00PM – Player/Kommander
6:00PM – Carnivores
7:00PM – Selmanaires
8:00PM – Manchester Orchestra
9:00PM – Judi Chicago

I stopped by briefly and caught a little of the Noot d'Noot set but it was pretty packed. Picked up the following:

Vetiver - Tight Knit
Dan Auerbach - Keep It Hid
The Hunches - Exit Dreams (used)

yeah, it's really interesting to see what record stores are actually doing to recognize the day.

some here had huge banners out front about sales and giveaways and live bands. some just had a little sign in the window. some didn't even have discounts or sales. a lot of them had food.

but most of them, if they even had the special releases or any giveaways, were out of those things very early in the day. i was at one store within a half-hour of their opening and they were out of all the special releases and i apparently got one of the last gift bags.

It was $13.99 and I don't yet own a record player. Just thought I'd get it while getting's good.

Jealous.

Is this just a re-release of their old 7" singles? What songs are on them?
