for Sleater Kinney to get back together? It's been, what, four years? That's plenty of time for those gals to realize they're never going to come close to topping the awesome of that band.

This thought comes after catching a show for Philjapu's band The Black last night. The band that played after them, Follow That Bird, was really great and totally had a Sleater Kinney + rock thunder thing going on, like if they'd continued in the direction they were going on with "The Woods". Totally a band I'm going to catch again and made me regret the fact I never got to see SK live before they parted ways.

Here's the band from last night;

on hiatus since 06, but The Woods came out May 05.

That's 4 years by my mark.

sorry but no. Hot Rock and All Hands were good. Everything else was crap. The Woods was the worst.

I don't know bort. The first record was serviceable and I still think Call the Doctor is strong on many tracks. But Dig Me Out is still a motherfucker of a record. Probably second behind All Hands.... The last one was at least better than One Beat which outside of 2-3 songs kinda blows. I thought they had a great steady progression from the debut up through All Hands.

Considering most of those records were made in relatively quick 1-2 year succession, it would be interesting to hear what kind of music they would make after a four or more year gap.

didn't get into them until later, but everything from Call the Doctor onward is great.

The Woods is a fucking monster of a record.

I've still got point-of-entry bias for The Hot Rock, but All Hands... is damn good.

The Woods is interesting as I loved Fridmann's sound when it first released. When I listen to it recently, though, I realize what a lousy mastering job it had. I wish I had seen that material live as I still like a lot of those songs.

The Woods is the only one that no longer does it for me, it may be the mastering as Sketch said but it sounds lousy to me. I even like One Beat.

yeah actually Dig Me Out has my fav SK track (Little Babies) but overall i didn't care for it. i'm not sure if that album would've even ever been a break out album if not for the coinciding riot grrl hype during that time. but i think they did get better...and then they got worse.

Wow. I just totally don't comprehend this.

"Words And Guitar"?
"The Drama You've Been Craving"?
"Dance Song '97"?
"One More Hour"?
"Not What You Want"?

All of em, fucking monoliths of awesome in my book.

And I'm with Sketch on "The Woods" - love the direction but the outcome was flubbed up somewhere along the line.

oh shit. And you didn't even mention "Jenny," which destroys me and I think may be better than all of those tracks, which are all probably 5-stars.

yeah, pretty good record.

Same Here...

Saw them live at least 7 times - hard to pick a favorite song, though...
