Next Generation >>> original series

Completely agree here.

While NG might be over the top with its morality sometimes, it kills the original in the acting department. It's probably really unfair to even compare the two given the environment they both appeared in. Hard to say the 60's version was given a fair shake.

Some of the story lines of NG were very thought provoking. And not since Khan has there been a better enemy/opponent then "Q".

I havent really liked any of the NG movies beyond First Contact.

I am seriously pumped for a retooling of the ST Universe though. It needs the same kick in the arse that James Bond received with Casino Royale / Quantum.

Who is this movie being marketing towards? To me the ads look all hip and flashy.

well, you've got to get the popular 18-to-34-year olds out there. and i think paramount knows that the die hard trekkies will see it no matter what, so no sense in marketing it toward them. and the movie is pretty slick. it's an action movie with excellent special effects. during the bar scene i mentioned earlier, i commented to a friend "23rd century hipsters." so i don't think making it look hip and flashy is a departure.

at the screening i was at last night, i don't think there was anyone over 50. and most people were late 20s through 30s.

You seem to be picking up on something painfully obvious here.

Well, my tv watching has been pretty sparse so it feels like I'm missing something. Namely, who in marketing thought this would be a good idea?

Probably everyone. Because it is.

I don't see this being a flop.

When I first heard about this idea, I thought it was a terrible one. I'm now convinced this movie is going to make a shit-ton of money.

terrible ideas and making a shit-ton of money aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

Not in the theater, no. But one watches many movies on TV one won't pay for in theaters.

I thought this was a great Star Trek movie. Haven't been too thrilled with the Abrams big screen ventures thus, but this was just great. I mean, it's a blockbuster action movie for the summer season and isn't the Oscar-winning artsy flick of the year, but it was a great 2 hours for me.

MI:3 was underrated I felt - a real solid action flick. But that's his only other directed film. Or are you talking about him producing Cloverfield?

Whether it's direction or production, I was just lumping them all together. I knew he only produced Cloverfield but counted it anyway.

I thought MI:3 was horrible, but I hated all of 'em so it's no surprise. Why I subjected myself to three of them, I don't know.

My roommate said to me after the movie, "there's gonna be a lot of upset nerds". My sentiment is basically, "fuck the nerds". I don't care if it's true to the original series or not, shit was a hell of a lot of fun.
