Can you pm me my opinion on this?

There is no need for this live album at all. I could barely fucking understand a single word he said over the whole performance, and when I could discern I think it was probably just knowing the actual album so well and my brain just filled in the slurred syllable. He's morphing into Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

Glad to hear that. I was thinking about going to see the show that was the basis for the live album but the box office didn't open til mid day and I decided to go to the beach rather than wait around to buy tickets. I was wondering if I had made a mistake. Sounds like I didn't.

I saw that he was on Regis & Kelly this morning so I recorded it. I'm hoping he killed Regis and then rape-ate Kelly.

Well he was on the program this morning. As of 4:32pm MST, I'm not sure if the latter is true.

It ain't relevant to an Astral Weeks discussion, but I always liked this performance:

Van, Sinead and the Chieftans on Letterman:

Agreed, and I watched him on Regis & Kelly. He sang 'Sweet Thing', and vocally not bad, better than the record. The band sounded great here as well.

I am glad I didn't comment in this thread and have to go back and retract it. Not sure why, but I queued up some Van this morning, intending to listen to His Band and Street Choir and St. Dominic's Preview. But since this is the first alphabetically, I started with it - and Holy Shit am I glad I did!

Jesus - I always KNEW Van was a monster, but I don't know that I realized just how fucking soulful and IRISH he is. This shit is what to listen to during the hangover AFTER the wake. And I am revelling in it.

I think I am going to put Madame George on a repeat for the next epic hangover I have to grapple with. You can almost feel the fatigue and pathos dripping from the notes and the vocals.

Truthfully, I have had this album for years and never given it its proper due, because I always heard it described as jazzy and near-scattish. It may be perfect. And I am definitely going to take more heed of all those lists that put this way up at the top of the best evers.

Sometimes things have to hit you when you are ready to accept them.

Well his primary qualities indeed. While astral weeks is a perfect album , my favorite vocal performance is Carrickfergus on Irish Heartbeat with the Cheiftains.

When the student is ready the teacher will appear.

Add in some fright, shame, and selfishness, and you get T. B. Sheets.
