So, I know we have some drinkers here...

I am trying to find a wine for one of my friends who is coming to visit. It is a Thelema Cabernet Sauvignon. It is from a small winery in South Africa.

I have tried to find it locally to no avail. I am now resolved to order it online. However, I have never ordered wine online before and I have no idea what places are trustworthy, etc.

I was curious to know if any Obners had ordered wine online and had any suggestions for trustworthy companies. Any ideas?

Edit: I have looked at winerz.com and also Saratoga Wine Exchange (out of NY). The latter looks legit, but I just have no clue what I am doing.

In Charlottesville, VA stocks it. Maybe you can purchase a bottle from them, or ask them who their distributor is.

Is that horribly far away from you?

Charlottesville is about 3 hours from me. Maybe 4.

I will contact them and see what they say.

There's only about ten or so states where its legal to ship wine direct to customers and Virginia is not one of them. It may be slightly more complicated than that but my sister who lives in VA is not able to buy wine direct from vineyards without having it shipped to someone in DC and picking it up from them.

If I were you I'd contact Cape Classics, the US distributor and find out the closest place you can buy it locally before trying to figure out ways to get around the shipping laws.

Hope that helps.

Wow. I had no idea you couldn't ship wine to the customer. This sucks ass.

I will check your route. Thanks.

That's probably your best bet. If the distributor can't recommend a store near by, there might be ways around the law. I don't know for sure. But I know the store i buy from, KL Wines, has the states they can ship to listed on the shipping tab but list a phone number to call for more information if you aren't in one of those states. They don't have any Thelema in stock but it looks like they do carry it.

Success.

Contacted the distributor in VA for this wine and they gave me a local retailer who will have it here by tomorrow.

Thanks billy g. You have now ensured that I will be at least one step closer to gettin' some. haha

EDIT: the distributor told me that online places can ship to VA so long as they have some specific license but she was doubtful that they would get that license for imported wines.
