Holy fuck does this guy know how to build a tune up into euphoric bliss.

THE FIELD RETURN WITH ‘YESTERDAY & TODAY’
ANTI- AND KOMPAKT RECORDS JOIN FORCES ON TRIUMPHANT RELEASE
ALBUM SET FOR MAY 19, 2009 WITH TOUR DATES TO FOLLOW

The Field is Axel Willner, and his last album, Here We Go Sublime, was one of the most acclaimed releases of 2007, receiving a 9.0 on Pitchfork and universal praise. The BBC called it “one of those rare albums that makes you wonder how you ever got by without it.â€

Not my thing but this band did spawn a pretty interesting thread in BeeOK's year in review thread about that last album.

The critical praise that last one received is one of the most baffling things, to me, of this decade.

Isn't there a shoegaze esque band called The Field as well?

Well, I'll freely admit that I don't really listen to this type of music but I really tried with that album due to the overwhelming praise it was receiving and I just couldn't get into at all.

The baffling thing was that when discussion of it came up on here a couple of times it was rare that someone would say that it was some pinnacle of acheivement or something. Many said that it was either "okay" or they just out and out hated it and I'd say normally the board falls in line with whatever critical claim is being heaped on album XYZ (for the most part).

But that thing was the #1 reviewed album of the year on Metacritic.

Like I said, just wasn't my thing but there always seemed to me a disconnect from the acclaim it was getting to discussions that were happening around here. Not meaning to crap in this thread or anything.

i think that album has a few really great songs on it, but falls a bit short as a long player. Album of the year I just don't get.

The last one was pretty MOR electronic music. Nothing groundbreaking. I never got it either and I do listen to electronic music (not as much as I used to, but I know when something sounds fresh).
