The trailer looks cool, but it doesn't look like the movie will follow the book very closely.

i have my fingers crossed that they made it look much more actionly to lure in the unread, similar to the trailer treatment for No Country

John Hillcoat is very under appreciated. This will be great.

Apparently the kid in this is just brilliant. Had Robert Duvall and Viggo raving about him as the best talent they'd seen in a long time.

The place they filmed the empty road at is near me. The abandoned PA turnpike, 'round Bedford, PA. At some point this upcoming month, a few friends and I are going to ride and camp on it. Its pretty eerie.

I dunno, I saw some key plot points in the trailer. I think the fact that they are explaining what happened is kinda lame though. One of the best parts of the book is the mystery.

I have not read the book (and didn't read No Country) and this looks fucking awesome and eerie as fuck (and No Country was awesome)

book = great, movie looks good, I thought I read it was going to be in black and white, or saturation filtered down, not so I guess

the mystery explained is fine for film imo, more enduring for the book as open ended

Alone is how I read it the first time, wife and kids gone for 2 weeks. I'll be reading it again.

As did I.

This is my no.1 most anticipated film of 2009, so needless to say, I'm on pins and needles to see this. Hillcoat is perfect. I think he's going to bring his distinct grittiness to the film. One of the hold-ups (besides the hemming and hawing of the studio to find a good release placement), was his meticulous post-work. Hope it pays off.

Viggo is an excellent choice for the dad. He has to play emotional, yet still have an undying drive.

I really need to read this. It's fairly short right?

FemDerris is out of town next weekend. Might have to pick it up and blow through it while I've got some quiet.

if you had absolutely nothing to do for the weekend, you could feasibly finish it during that time

i think the people who see this trailer and expect something like i am legend are going to be extremely confused. but i'm holding out hope that the key people like hillcoat and mortensen can make this translate well to film.

also, that abandoned section of the PA turnpike is pretty cool. there're a bunch of those tunnels along the bike trails.

Yeah, looks pretty good. Obviously they dressed up the trailer with all the money shots and white flashes and ponderous booms. But I think it'll remain fairly true to the novel.

It's not like they have the guy wrasslin' zombies on the wing of a crashing plane or anything. And if they did, you could bet it would be in the trailer.

They might even stick to all the backstory in flashbacks as well. I can't imagine kicking this story off with the goddamn apocalypse and then have the father and son walk for two hours.

based on how often charlize theron is in the trailer, i'd imagine those flashbacks will play a pivotal role.

I picked up both used recently but haven't cracked them. I guess I should probably check out The Road this weekend.

Awesome. October 16th is a long way off though. I was convinced Weinstein was going to bury this thing for another couple of years so I guess I should be happy that it's even coming out this year.

Probably my favorite book of the past ten years or so. I've read it three or four times now. I think that with the people involved it's going to be hard for this suck. A lot of the movie will rest on the sholders of the kid, but, from what I've heard, he pulls it off.
