Looking at calendars for venues around town and came across Cracker playing at the Croc in July. I have at various times put Kerosine Hat on my top five, was always a CVB fan, but honestly have not heard anything new from Lowery in a long long time. thoughts?

I would imagine it's well worth it. And the last Cracker album was extremely good, the reunion CVB album was nearly very good.

I shall seek out Sunrise in The Land Of Milk And Honey, listening to it repeatedly between now and July 7th, thus building anticipatory fever

Yeah I haven't heard that yet, but I liked Greenland far more than I expected to and though New Roman Times didn't really work as a concept album it had strong individual songs.

I just pictured a roman granite discus on your turntable... maybe I've been working too much.

Apart from a great opening song, I thought Greenland sounded like what you'd expect from a band that's so beaten and so tired that it probably knew by name all 50 people who'd buy their album. In other words, it sounded dull and pointless.

Thankfully, the new one is a huge improvement - sonically suggesting the album that should have followed The Golden Age. And Lowery's got his smirk back on, which is always a good thing.

I asked this same question here 3 or so years ago:

http://www.obner.org/bb/viewtopic.php?t ... ht=cracker

But yeah, I say go. They came off maybe slightly washed up when I saw them, but I still enjoyed it.

*edit*
I just remembered...Lowery was actually a little under the weather at the time, or at least recovering from something. But that was 2006 so he's probably better now. :)

Good to hear; looking forward to hearing the new one. Liked Greenland and somehow never got around to picking up New Roman Times.

Saw Cracker in a small place about 7-8 years ago and they were truly alot of fun. Glad I went.

I would totally go to this show. I actually really like the album they did with Leftover Salmon.

(in 3 or 4 days, Monty will bump this thread and call me "an hippie")

Saw them a million times over an 8 yr period of time. I haven't seen them in several years. But they were always awesome to see live. They put on hell of a show.

I've heard a couple songs from their new album and it sounds pretty good. If you have the chance to go I say go, it would be worth it.

Go. I've never seen them before so I'm glad you put up this thread.

A quick check shows they're doing a 2 night stand here in July.

The thought of hearing them do "Ain't Gonna Suck Itself" is enough to get me to go.

I have lots of respect for bands like this that had their moment in the top 40 limelight but continued to play to their dedicated fan base and put out music on their own terms.

Dull and pointless is a concept relative to each listener. I think "Sidi Infi" is one of the best songs of the past decade.

Never seen Cracker, but I can tell you that Monks of Doom (the other CVB offshoot band that I know of) was outstanding the one time that I saw them.

dl'd the new Cracker off emusic and I like it. I kinda flitted with them off and on through the years between their MTV stardom, and Greenland. This, as some of you have said, is at least a stab at their old form.

Does anyone have Countrysides? If so, how is it?
