I bet Marah would be a good choice. But for my Canada Day party, I'll hire the Hip to play all of Fully Completely.

Best band to book if you want all your shit stolen and your chick to get pushed into a closet/bathroom.

Also, a shit taken somewhere in your crib not a toilet.

Except, all bathrooms would be locked.

if we are going with any time, not just present day...i'll third the P-FUNK nominations.

otherwise i'd second NOMO or maybe nominate Antibalas.

Fuck, if Dwight were playing at my party, I wouldn't be able to do anything but watch that guitarist the whole time. I'd really enjoy it, but my wife would be pissed at me for not talking to anyone (or budging from wherever I stood).

Fleshtones would be a pretty kick ass band for a house party.

If seeing one up close would magically grant me the ability to do all of that shit to a telecaster, well I just don't wanna finish this sentence.

XTC would be pretty awesome, right around the time of Black Sea & English Settlement.

this depends ENTIRELY on the party. Depending on the venue/energy, I could go anywhere from Stan Getz to the Go! Team to Primal Scream.

but then, the correct answer would still probably be Bon Scott-era AC/DC

I don't want to be too hard on you here because Antibalas are a fun live band and there's much worse answers in this thread, but I don't get putting them above present day P-funk. I find it hard to believe that Nomo deserves it either but I can't say since i've never seen them.

Even the time that George Clinton had laryngitis and didn't sing at all, P-funk blew away the Antibalas show I saw. I wouldn't trust the current lineup to write and record an album like the early 70's incarnations did, but they still slay when playing those songs.

i'm sure you are right. i haven't seen them since '96, but they were awesome and such an incredibly good time. i've just balked at the $50+ ticket price everytime they've come through town here in the past few years.
