Yeah, I like to hit people and watch 'em shut the fuck up too. I just prefer to do it with adults who at least have a chance of fighting back.

c'mere and smack me you.

Yeah, but I find that when they enjoy it, they keep blabbering for more.

Although the combination of child violence and Jebus should keep the anti-depressant industry hale and hearty through these difficult economic times.

Me? Target? Maybe just paranoid?

I won't plunge into this again. For the record, I haven't spanked either of my children since this thread. However, it has nothing to do with this thread. MAYBE the less than a handful of times that they got it were effective.

I don't see how anyone could ever beat a small, defenseless child.

Not when a vicious shaking is still on the table.
edit: or an old-fashioned pistol-whipping.

You're a good example of a kid that didn't get beat or didn't get beat enough. People might like you now if your childhood was different.

i didn't think i was that old, but i remember being spanked in kindergarten (1980)

i was also spanked a few times at home, but what really straightened me out was when i was acting out in public, and my mom with a very serious whisper said in my ear that she'd pull down my britches and spank me right then and there.

im late to this thread
but i just want to say

i was spanked once in a great while
and i do not plan on spanking

i just don't think it's super effective

however

i think there's things that are typically not considered "abuse" that are far worse for kid than a little tap on the bottom.

- parents shit talking each other after/during a divorce
- letting kid watch television everyday
- letting kid eat shitty
- buying too many nice things for kid

Agreed on the worse things. My parents didn't do any of those things, but some of my friend's parents did.

I don't plan on spanking although I heartily believe in setting your kid straight by whatever means gets through to the kid that your conscience can stay clean with.

I also don't plan on having kids. I do plan on continuing to gig, which is probably the main reason for not having kids.

With 3, I'll probably take the path of least resistance and buy the behavior I want through gifts. I realize that they'll be terrible people, but fuck I'm tired already.

You can also pit them against each other for your affections -- they should be beer getting machines in a year or two, no?

Get one of them on violin, one of them on viola, and one of them on cello NOW. By the time they're in first grade, they should be little bad asses, and you can pimp them out for weddings as a trio. You should be able to find suzuki lessons that'll take kids around age one, and then you won't REALLY have to bribe them.

I will tell you this, from all that i've experienced, family members (no matter how different or incompatible they might seem) usually have an insane connection musically, and that goes up synergistically with twins. Who could tell what triplets could do?

If I yell out that I want a beer or soda, it's like American Gladiator between the older two for who can get to the basement fridge first.

Look everybody!
Another quality drive-by post from ShamWhoopedy!

Maybe someday, if your mom saves up her nickels, she'll move her trailer onto a foundation to create the perfect basement for you to live. Then you won't have to sleep in the den.
