So I saw Mr. Burke on Saturday at Amoeba. He was an hour late because he was stuck in traffic caused by a large demonstration near the civic center, which I had actually left early from to see Solomon!
Amoeba was packed -- he was really surprised to see so many fans there. He said that he thought there would be like 3 people there to see him. I'm actually not familiar with his material, though after seeing him and listening to the new album (which I got signed) I definitely want to check out more of his stuff.
He only played a few songs (since it was an in-store and also he had to get back on the road), but man, what a voice! At one point he put down the mic and just let it rip. Thanks for twisting my arm, Tania
As a side note, the "stage" is right next to the oldies section, so I spent an hour flipping through cds. There are some great old album covers -- I love all the ones of families wearing identical costumes, leaning in and smiling.
