Rocky's Revenge is really good, as are a few others of theirs. Great little brewery.

I've loved all their Brewers Gone Wild beers. The Scurvy is awesome on hot days such as this!

Sierra Nevada is a better Pale Ale.

I don't even think of fat tire as an ipa.

It's not. It's an Amber Ale.

I've gotten a few big bottles in the last week, just cause I can now. I've enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.

But I'm sure it won't be a regular for me.

Yeah completely agree with Cap...it's all about supply and demand here.

Fat Tire isn't even the best beer that the New Belgium Brewing Company makes.
For my money, that would be their Mothership Ale, which is giving Bell's Oberon a run for its money as my favorite summertime seasonal.

(Fat Tire / IPA) I thought I was losing it.

So this was ok, probably helped by the fact that it comes out of a can. You don't expect as much that way I guess. From the makers of Pork Slap:

Image

Like most wheats it was banana-y, but to me it was a LOT moreso than usual. "What smells like bananas?" -wife. Again, I think the presentation (can, good/simple art) sorta sets me up to like it more than I might if it were just handed to me in a pint glass. So it was good, not amazing. Either way, I think I'm developing a crush on this brewery.

A restaurant near my parents' house just started offering this ON TAP:

Good stuff.
But, with 10% alcohol content, a 10-oz. pour is really all that I need.

I could barely choke this stuff down. I got the pork slap sampler -- the IPA, Stout, Weisse, and Pale. The weisse was acerbic and aftertasty, the stout was thin and overcarbonated, the pale was... a low-quality pale ale, and the IPA was a parody. I could stomach the pale and the stout, but the others were just awful.

But also, Cap'n, IPA != Pale Ale. Sierra Nevada (the one you see everywhere) is the latter not the former.

If you don't take the opportunity to try St. Feullien, you are beyond redemption.

Yeah. For some reason I DID think Fat Tire was a Pale Ale, though.

Also recommended, any of the St. Bernardus offerings, Val Dieu, Corsendonk, and Abbey D' Alune.

Woah. Couple of observations after looking at that site.

1) Atlanta needs a Pogues cover band. It would be perfect for this thing.

2) Check out the sponsors. The Law Firm of Larsen & Teusink is sponsoring this thing. It's the firm of our very own (or used to be) Pagoda.

I'm assuming you meant that an India Pale Ale is not the same as a Pale Ale, as opposed to an India Pale Ale !!! is a Pale Ale?

If so, yeah that's true, I forget there is a "pale ale" I guess.

So you didn't like the pork slap?

Last night/today was my 21st birthday so I went to the bar and drank these:

[img][183:500]http://www.ratebeer.com/beerimages/full_size/22904.jpg[/img][img][137:500]http://www.ratebeer.com/beerimages/full_size/39508.jpg[/img]Image

Dogfish 120 Minute IPA
Dogfish Burton Baton (draft)
Weyerbacher Double Simcoe IPA (draft)
Breckenridge 471 Small Batch IPA (draft)
Bluegrass Jeffersons Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout (draft)
Williamsburg Aleworks Drake Tail IPA (no picture)
Ayinger Celebrator
Stone Russian Imperial Stout (draft)
Harpoon IPA
Weyerbacher - Old Heathen

Needless to say, especially ending with the 120 Minute at 21% ABV, I blacked out at the end of the night.

I've had a number of those but can't remember them except for the 120 minute and Celebrator.

Yeah, the DFH120 is a beast.

There are a lot of pale ales I'd drink first, but I'd hoist a cold one if it was around.

I've never heard a good word spoken about Pork Slap, from friends or from internet beer nerds.

Had what I think is my first encounter with a glass of sour ale on Saturday night:

Except I had it on tap. It was interesting- kind of like beer with cherries and pickle juice. Don't think I could make a habit of it, but a glass was alright.

So I brought 4 cans of their wheat beer that you so scatingly disparaged with me camping this weekend, and had a chance to ponder it. Out of the can it's definately not as good as it is from a glass. But I think "forced myself to choke it down" or whatever you said is too far. It's a decent beer, all the more rare for being in a can. Nothing more than that I guess.

I actually like the pork slap, beyond the cover art. It's (again) a decent beer made slightly more novel for being in a can, not unlike Dale's Pale Ale or that scotch ale somebody makes.
