But there are no Bob Evans restaurants in TX.

How is that for some shit?

I did find out that Mimi's Cafe is affiliated with them somehow, and there are 11 locations in TX, 3 in the austin area, and one in nearby san antonio.

However, there is nothing approximating the sunshine skillet at Mimi's Cafe, they seem to be a bit more upscale than Bob Evans, not that that would take much.

Fuck, no Bob Evans, no white castle, no chicago style pizza worth a damn.

sigh.

don't knock it till you've tried it.

Last night we had a get together over here, i steamed 2 lbs of mussels in white wine, butter and garlic. Someone else made bruschetta, couple other people brought some salads. I made two lasagnas, one with sirloin and italian sausage in a tomato basil sauce with mushrooms, onions and garlic. The other lasagna was a spinach, mushroom, onion and garlic lasagna in an alfredo sauce i made from heavy whipping cream, butter, garlic, onion and parmesan.

I even took the time to use fresh garlic, per the nazis on the board, and yeah, it made a difference although it added a half hour to the prep time (lot of garlic).

Tons of great homemade desserts.

I think Bob Evans turns out a good breakfast though, and yeah, i could do it better at home on my own, but i'm hungover.

Is Bob Evans strictly a regional thing? I've never eaten at one.

Yes - I think its mostly relegated to The Fail Belt - formerly known as The Rust Belt - I had lunch at one with a guy who is now Congressman.

It's on par with Shoney's, but featuring better pot roast.

Last time I ate at a Bob Evans was a few years ago during a fucking blizzard in Pittsburgh- it was the closest thing to the hotel I was in. I was the youngest form of life in the damned place (including the bread). It was like Piccadilly, but without the buffet line, and with more formaldehyde.

Everytime I meet up with the wife's family at some gathering--wedding, reunion, etc there's always a mandatory breakfast at Bob Evans. I would think Texas would have the most per capita. Weird.

I tend to think of Bob Evans as a lightly upscale Waffle House that attempts lunch/dinner fare. For a long time, Bob Evans and Waffle House stayed on their original side of the Mason-Dixon line, but the House seems to have expanded quite a bit over the past decade.

I had a corned beef loco moco at Ken's in Hilo yesterday. It was delicious. White rice, brown gravy, corned beef hash, and 2 eggs sunny side up in a big bowl of failure next to a cup of black coffee. It was delicious. Then I ate everyone else's pancakes.
