Substantively not much different from latter Beatles albums - lots of song suites and overall very catchy - just *gasp* not my thing much anymore. Not bad, just not running toward my current tastes.

If the cover is an indication that they are back to a more aggressively rhythmic sound ala ...And Out Come the Wolves, I predict heavy and near constant rotation.

Like I said earlier, I am shocked that I like this, but it is Uber-Lomitous and almost undeniable.

Going to listen to this again, as I am going through my "recently added" folder. We'll see if it takes.

Power Lounging Vol 2. - LOMIT

Sam Cooke? I FUH!

Slowcore IV -- full track by track review forthcoming. Let's just say that when I heard the version of Subterranean Homesick Blues, I PM'd Radcliffe "WHat the Fuck is WRONG with you?"

I think I will listen to this and jack off to Jay Bennet's corpse.

I'm dangerously close to extreme enthusiasm about this album.

The Essential Billie Holiday

3CD collection of Billie focusing on recordings from the 30s and 40s. Great stuff, although with my current scatter shot of Billie Holiday recordings, I am wondering if there is a comprehensive box set that would give me everything I need instead of the random collection I currently pull from.

And I was listening to that Rancid on the way to work this morning and digging it...will slap that back on once the work day is done and I'm ready for something a bit more upbeat...lots of ska influence on this one...nice.

I can't put my finger on why exactly, but something about that cover just transfixes / scares the shit out of me.

i have to admit, this is the first real listen i've given to these guys. this was prompted by taking a listen to john martyn's recently released "deluxe" version of solid air (really should have been on my listmania if it wasn't), which led me to finally grab some other john martyn albums, which led me to checking out a sandy denny comp, which led me here. really good stuff all around and i'm looking forward to checking out more.

will these albums make it to your blog perhaps?

Classic Fairport Convention is great stuff, especially the albums with Sandy Denny. I have each of those + some bonus tracks, plus the album that came after them (Full House, the last FC album with Richard Thompson), plus the Sandy Denny solo album Sandy, plus several Richard & Linda Thompson albums, all of which are good to great and mostly mine a similar vibe. I could up any or all of those at some point although no promises as to when exactly.

I'll have to check out John Martyn. Not really familiar with him.

yeah, that comp definitely lagged a little towards the end. the first disc plus half of the second were really good. not sure what i was expecting...a little bit cheesier peter, paul and mary-esque folk maybe. let me know if you ever do up any of those albums. i'd take a listen for sure.

this link on bolachas for john martyn is still good. definitely the place to start with him. i think you'd dig him.
