I have no idea what's going on with the Secret Six (I thought it was a mini), but it's one of the most entertaining books I read.

and does anyone know how long this Green Lantern bullshit supposed to last? There's like 8 different colored lanterns already.

where I'm at though:

Finally almost done with the entire DCU crisis anthology (I downloaded a huge 10gb torrent that started with Crisis on Infinite Earth lead-ins and goes through every event basically until Final Crisis) and now I'm reading the FC issues and tie-ins. Obviousy didnt read every comic, but know the jist of like 20+ years of comics now. Catching up on Marvel as well (Civil War->Dark Reign) as well as the Guardians of The Galaxy-> War Of Kings.

Bought my first books in like 10 years last week and they're great:
Secret Warriors #1-3
War of Kings #1-2
Flash Rebirth
Unknown Soldier #1-2
Destroyer

I'm actually excited for the Flash Rebirth series. Being that I never really read superhero comics until now and a lot of my stuff is Crisis on Infinite Earths era, MY Flash IS Barry Allen unlike most comic fans who have an affinity for Wally West. Destroyer was pretty funny (Shiv, you on that?)

Secret Warriors is pretty good, probably the only Dark Reign series I'll buy, but will download some of the others. Gotta download the new Wolverine Weapon X...but I don't kow anything about the convoluted Wolverine.

Anyway, yeah. This might just be a passing fad for me.

Blackest Night hasn't STARTED yet? Fuck me....

Holy shit. I can't get through those crises to save my life. Well, Identity Crisis was fantastic, and I need to go back and check out Final, but those multiverse-altering crises I just gloss over halfheartedly.

You picked up some great books to catch up on. I haven't read unknown soldier, and I'm just getting into the Abnett/Lanning stuff now with War of Kings, but I like it so far, and it's nice to see Havok and Polaris have a home.

Is Destroyer that new Kirkman book? I have no idea how that's out on Marvel, unless he wrote it before he flew the coop. I liked it (I've liked pretty much everything I've read of his, i.e. Invincible and Walking Dead) and I'm wondering where he's gonna go with it.

Secret Warriors is going to get real exciting, real soon, I hope. I'm still trying to figure out the whole Hydra-ruling-SHIELD stance, but I like the effort. Hickman's also doing the FF Dark Reign series, which I've liked so far, despite usually hating the Fantastic Four.

I know NOTHING about any of the Flashes, other than that Rogues Gallery series that Geoff Johns wrote like a year ago, which I really liked. It seems like Barry Allen has a massive, hyperspeed rod up his ass, though. I do want to see him and Green Arrow argue, though.

Wolverine... yeah, I have no idea what's going on with that character, other than the "Old Man Logan" storyline going on right now that's fucking amazing. The Mad Max meets Unforgiven Wolverine story. The art alone is worth downloading.

Yeah it's all Blackest Night Preludes and shit. I don't know, I don't know the current Green Lantern arc.

Destroyer is a 5 part thing by Kirkman. It's just badass as all get out. Simple story, minimal dialogue, no plot twists. Just an old guy killed a lot of people in a lot of awesome ways.

The new Unknown Soldier is really great. I mean violent of course, but the whole Uganda angle is pretty interesting. Dysart is a pretty good writer. I don't know how many volumes it's going to have, I can't imagine it lasting long without being unbearable, but it's definitely interesting.

I'll check into Old man Logan

Where/how do you download comics?

Due to financial issues, I've had to stop buying new comics for the first time in 11 years and it's stressing me out not knowing what's going on.

i think i'm gonna have to get on the downloading bandwagon too as i've been going weeks w/o buying new issues and then i can't remember where i left off.

i'm enjoying Incognito.

thunderbolts was coming along fine until they started that crossover with deadpool, who has gone from pretty cool character that shows up once in awhile to fucking insufferable.

i'm finally reading winter soldier. it's good.

i just read that diggle is taking over daredevil after #500.

has anyone watched brubaker's 'angel of death' web series?

Blackest Night #0 is the DC Free Comic Book Day issue that's coming out next month. I think the actual miniseries is eight issues and starts in July. There's going to be a bunch of tie-in miniseries stuff too.

I kind of want to enjoy blackest night, but along with the Flash stuff, there's so much history to sit through that I can't be bothered with it. But I trust Johns enough to make it work for someone like me. Still, I have no idea how it can ripple through the DCU all that much, especially when the three biggest characters are out of the picture (for the second time in like 2 years?), the JLA book is shit, the JSA just disbanded or something, and Booster Gold STILL has a series.

holy crap, I completely forgot about Incognito. Is that delayed or something? I can't remember if the last issue I read was 2 or 3. That art is amazing.

As far as the Old Man Logan thing, it's nothing that'll blow you out of your seat, but it's a LOT of fun. McNiven's art is better than it's ever been, and you get to see all sorts of fun shit. Oh, and you get to find out who killed almost all of the marvel U. Fun.

Yeah, downloading is really the easiest way to go about comics, and you can find pretty much anything if you look under the right rocks. I still but Trade Paperbacks (and the occasional absolute edition), but buying issues is such a waste for me since I end up throwing them out or giving them away after like a month. This way, I get to read all the bullshit I'd never buy (Thunderbolts, X-Factor, etc...) and still get to buy the trades I know I want.

I didn't know that Brubaker was leaving Daredevil. 6 months ago , I would've prayed for that, (why are there lady counterparts to every villain in the Marvel Universe now? It's just weird) but after the last 2 issues I totally want him on the book forever.

Captain Britain actually makes me enjoy the Blade character, which I thought was impossible, and the villain/old man thing from Terry Moore's Echo might be the most terrifying villain I've ever read. Why is it that black and white books tend to have a more chilling effect on me (Echo, Walking Dead, Queen & Country) than the insane Ennis stuff?

I found a bunch of really decent files on Piratebay yet they don't want to download, despite having many seeders.

I got a couple to finish but not even close to half.

Irredeemable #1 was pretty fucking bad ass. Also Ellis' Ignition City #1 was very, very promising.

Infinite Horizon #4 finally came out last week as well. Only been 7 months since the last one. I'm going to start buying indies, boxing them up and finally reading them when I actually have the entire run.

I've got to get on the torrent thing. I no longer have the space or budget to keep buying single issues.

Anybody know what happened to that War Heroes series? It wasn't great or anything, but I haven't seen anything since issue 2.

Still haven't checked out Battlefields. I keep forgetting about it.

Read the first issue of Incognito a little while ago, and I think I liked it. It's the first Brubaker/Phillips thing I've read. Sean Phillips is great. I'm still generally on the fence about Brubaker.

I'm still behind on all the Dark Reign stuff, but I have to say that so far it's managed to keep me from jumping ship after Secret Invasion, which is an accomplishment. I enjoyed the first two issues of Dark Avengers and even that Uncanny X-Men annual that focused on Emma Frost (which was way, way better than expected). I'll probably just be reading New and Dark Avengers, Secret Warriors, Dark Reign FF, and Thunderbolts, but that's a lot more than I thought I'd be reading.

I've also really enjoyed Old Man Logan, and while I guess people are generally disappointed by or not interested in it, I've liked the Millar/Hitch FF as well. And I REALLY don't like the Fantastic Four.

I picked up that Destroyer book which looked pretty awesome. Haven't read it yet.

Lately I've been reading trades of The Invisibles (Vol. 1), Astro City (currently on the Tarnished Angel volume), 100 Bullets (Vol. 12), Transmetropolitan (Vol. 5), Walking Dead (Vol. 6), Powers (Vol. 6), Fables (Vol. 3), Umbrella Academy (Vol. 1), and Iron Fist (Vol. 2). I think that's all of them. It takes me forever to get through them because I rarely have time to read comics these days. They just keep piling up.

I have a dump truck of work in front of me, but I just read Walking Dead on a little study break and not only was it awesome like it is every other fucking issue, but the promos in the back spell some goddamned TROUBLE. The zombies are just getting scarier, too, which is odd.

Have you read Invisibles before? I think it's one of my favorite books, but it took me awhile to figure out what the hell was going on. Also, because I read Filth first, which wasn't the best idea. I'm really close to giving up Fables, but the first 75 issues or whatever were incredibly good. Is Iron First vol. 2 the Swierczynski run? I've heard great things about it, but I gave up after David Aja left.

See, I don't know how I feel about Brubaker's mainstream stuff (though Cap has worked well, and Daredevil is getting really good right now) but Sleeper and Criminal are both incredible. Sleeper might be a little to on-the-head for me in some spots (Holden Carver? come on...) but Criminal is just downright evil good fun.

Whenever I feel like picking up a comic, I open these threads and realize just how out of date I am... Almost nothing said here jives with my late 90's comic knowledge.

This is my first time reading Invisibles, and so far I'm really liking it.

I've liked the first 3 issues in the Fables Vol. 3 trade, but I'm still not in love with that series. It's good enough for me to keep going, though.

Iron Fist Vol. 2 is the second half of the Brubaker/Faction/Aja run. The whole tournament thing. I like it better than Vol. 1, actually. It's been really fun. I doubt that I'll stick with the series after this, but I may pick up Vol. 3. if there are still a few Brubaker/Faction/Aja issues in it.

I forgot to mention that I don't like Umbrella Academy at all. It's a shame that Gabriel Ba is wasting his talent on that. And I had no idea that Gerard Way was the guy from My Chemical Romance until I opened up the book and read the introduction by Grant Morrison, much to my horror. It makes me wonder just how awful Grant Morrison's band must be.

---

I went to the comic store yesterday expecting to grudgingly pick up those two issues of Dead Pool that crossed over with Thunderbolts, only to see that the first one (Dead Pool #8, I think) had been marked up to $7. I tried to bargain with the guys at the store ("Come on, who would pay $7 for this?") who were sympathetic, but the old bitch there wasn't having it. Oxford really pisses me off with this mark up shit. That's no way to treat regular customers. I'm totally ready to just start downloading these things.

It's easy enough to do.

The new League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comes out tomorrow. Not that I'll get a chance to read it for another few weeks..

Quote:
CHAPTER ONE is set against a backdrop of London, 1910, twelve years after the failed Martian invasion and nine years since England put a man upon the moon. In the bowels of the British Museum, Carnacki the ghost-finder is plagued by visions of a shadowy occult order who are attempting to create something called a Moonchild, while on London's dockside the most notorious serial murderer of the previous century has returned to carry on his grisly trade. Working for Mycroft Holmes' British Intelligence alongside a rejuvenated Allan Quatermain, the reformed thief Anthony Raffles and the eternal warrior Orlando, Miss Murray is drawn into a brutal opera acted out upon the waterfront by players that include the furiously angry Pirate Jenny and the charismatic butcher known as Mac the Knife. This one is not to be missed!

This book is the first of three deluxe, 80-page, full-color, perfect-bound graphic novellas, written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Kevin O'Neill -- with lettering by Todd Klein, and colors by Ben Dimagmaliw. Each self-contained narrative takes place in three distinct eras, building to an apocalyptic conclusion occurring in our own twenty-first century.

get ready for some Threepenny Opera!

also, I'm really curious to see where this new Mark Waid book goes...

The new DC weekly series called Wednesday Comics sounds awesome. This series is going to go for three months rather than a year like previous weekly series.

Did anyone read last week's x-Factor? I've kept up with it for god knows how long because A) I like Peter David's writing and B) this was the first superhero book I ever really liked back when he was writing it in '91-93.

Anyway, I had enough trouble swallowing the idea of Longshot being on the team, but I accepted it. But Shatterstar might just be where I draw the line.

I have no idea what's out this week.
Cap 50. Invincible.

Oh, I totally gave up on X-Factor during the Secret Invasion tie-ins where Larry Stroman came back on board. Those were really awful.

This week there's couple of things I might grab - Boys: Herogasm, Ex Machina, FF and Dark Reign FF, and I guess Thunderbolts. I can't really decide if I like Andy Diggle or not, but he definitely has let me down with how he's handled Ant-Man so far.

Also, I think last week issue 73 of Wolverine came out of sequence, which is confusing. I guess #72 is the end of the Old Man Logan story, but I don't think it's out yet.

I have no time to read any books right now, so there's a huge stack waiting for me. Still, this I took 2 hours off yesterday to read one book that's been staring me down:

[img][350:500]http://i.newsarama.com/images/LoEG1910.jpg[/img]

LOEG 1910... wow. Threepenny Opera, Halley's Comet, the new Nemo.

I stil haven't read the text portions, but I stil loved this book. I'm hearing now that the remaining two installments take place in 1969 London* and present-day Afghanistan, which I don't even know how they're gonna approach. Either way, I can't wait to look at what they insert in the next few books and see if I can get through half of the cultural nods before Jess Nevins gets to them.

*I'm listening to Kevin O'Neill talking now about the scond installment and how they're trying to avoid the whole Austin Powers rendition of Swinging London. He's making all these points about how the the city didn't necessarily look like some mod temple, but rather a horrible postwar concrete slab. "People seem to forget that there was garbage everywhere". I thought that was interesting.
