after listening to the oranges band again last night, it has finally sufficiently clicked to bump the thermals from the five hole

wacky sidenote: you'd think after (almost) 17 years of marriage, i'd have a better read on my wife's musical tastes. I played her "slap dash for no cash" by art brut last night (my fav from the new album) with the specific intent of getting a negative reaction out of her...but was shocked to find out she actually dug it

weird

I've listened to that record about 3 times now and I still can't pin it down. It's all over the place. It's frustrating and engaging all at once.

He's a new samba soul artist on Luaka Bop. He sounds so much like Seu Jorge that if I'd just heard it out somewhere I'd have assumed it was a new Seu Jorge album.

Just off hand...

1. Sonic Youth - The Eternal
2. The Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca
3. Gomez - A New Tide
4. Pattern Is Movement - All Together
5. mewithoutYou - some really gay title I don't care to remember.
6. Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears - Tell 'Em What Your Name Is!

That is all I can remember that I've heard this year. The last three probably wouldn't make a real top-10 list... but the first three are definitely the cream of the year so far for me.

Poor year for me so far, nothing even approaching a Konstanirank of 7.50 which year winners should be getting.

Top Five

1 - Franz Ferdinand 'Tonight Franz Ferdinand'
2 - 1990s 'Kicks'
3 - P J Harvey & John Parish 'A Woman, A Man Walked By'
4 - The Von Bondies 'Love, Hate And Then There's You'
5 - Neko Case 'Middle Cyclone'

I'm only listing albums I purchase (most likely on CD as I don't purchase many mp3s anymore or download stuff.)

Best Of 2009
01. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest (This hits the spots in so many ways. Their best album to date.)
Image

02. Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca (Could easily be No. 1; it's a shame so many have disregarded it after one listen.)
Image

03. Thee Oh Sees - Help (Best garage/psych rock album of the year.)
Image

Other CDs I've Purchased:
Black Lips - 200 Million Thousand (Love the songs but I just can't seem to get over the shoddy production; it's distracting.)
Dan Auerbach - Keep It Hid (It just never seems to keep my interest; uneventful and boring.)

On Order:
Sholi - Sholi
Foreign Born - Person To Person

I'll probably give it another try. Some really good songs on it but overall, I found it boring.

Yeah, it never rises above "nice", and mostly stays grounded in "dull".
