I still fail to understand why anyone feels the need to have some hairy beast they have to feed and care for living in their house.

And yes, my wife felt the same way...that's why we are divorced.

CONCLUSIONS

Subject A exhibited the quintessential characteristics of a person in the grips of LSD. He was wary, fragile, and difficult to speak with. According to his reports, he experienced mild visual hallucinations, a sense of utter detachment from the world, and uncontrollable laughter. He also reported feeling "fucking weird."

We recommend LSD for users 18–24, people who watch more TV than they read books, and "dog people."

Subject B exhibited the classic symptoms of psychedelic mushroom intoxication. He was introspective but kind of endearing and, like Subject A, distant. Subject B reported feeling wise, physically warm, and "like, everything."

We recommend mushrooms for people 25 and older, those who are erudite, and, obviously, "cat people."

This is like a Dick Cheney either/or talking point.

There are so many options and gradients in the middle.

So who's feeding and caring for you now?

It has actually taken a team to replace her. Although I must say I feel this approach meets my needs more fully.

Hah, lovely. As long as the "team" members realize they are just that, you've pretty much accomplished every man's dream.

Enthusiasts of either kind are equally annoying, but I'll give the nod to dog owners. Few people aside from James Bond villains cart their cats around in purses or impose them upon others in public. And I say this as the owner of two dogs who generally prefers their company to actual people most of the time.

it is hard not to like a well-behaved, quiet, smart dog.

What he said.

The dog I just adopted has the power to make non dog people like her, which is kind of neat.

Cats. Meh. They're okay. I've had them all my life and my favorite passed away last year (which was so much harder than I'd imagine it being), but it's kind of nice just having the dog now.

On this board is that even fair? Cat Stevens in a landslide, i would guess.

Now if you said Cat Stevens vs. Dr. Dog, I wouldn't hazard a guess as to which way this board would side.

vs.

might be interesting too, but not really a contest here.

I used to hate them both, for different reasons. Now, I am still allergic to cats, but really love them.

I have a dog that I really love, but would NEVER have decided to own.

But,and these are breed samples, and our dog is a pure breed -- how do you deny these?

you're smoking too much gweeg, that last part could apply to any dog.

i still eye them suspiciously but all the pitbulls i've ever met have been super sweet.

You've got an Old English, Loog? Great dogs. Had one from age 12-17 and he was the best dog ever. Only wish you could bottle that personality and put it in a smaller package.

As for me, I've got a dumb as dirt Dachshund that I completely love, but is a SPED. And, his nemisis, a smart as hell cat that loves me much more than the wife. It drives her crazy and I love it.

Single men should not own cats or dogs under 15 pounds.

Cats are the most boring, useless animal. They always seem to look at you with a sense of superiority.

I love dogs, but real dogs, not those little rat dogs you guys are talking about. Other than that, avid dog lover.

I sit here with a 17 year old cat on one side, a three year old lab on the other, a 7 year old german shepherd on my feet... and my (still married) 41 year old partner asleep on the end of the sofa. I suppose I'd rescue them from a stormy sea into the lifeboat in that order.
