Funny thing is, so far all of the people in this thread claiming to dislike Rancid have done so while simultaneously (if somewhat covertly) admitting their concern over whether or not the band is perceived as cool/hip/adult enough. You should listen to music you like, not music you think makes you appear smarter or cooler than your pathetic real selves.

I don't care if some Rancid fans are 13 years old, or shop at Hot Topic (whatever the fuck that is), or that some other teenage douchebag considers them a guilty pleasure - songs like "Roots Radicals", "Maxwell Murder", "Blood Clot", and "Start Now" FAR exceed anything done by Green Day or Blink 182 or any other mall punk band you try-hards want to name. Those songs exceed anything the Clash themselves put out.

I can't agree with rads on that, but Rancid is a pretty good band. Obviously better than some of the other turds thrown around in this thread.

Blasphemy, I know, but yeah. I was around for the Clash, and I prefer those Rancid songs to anything the Clash put out.

I'm gonna remember this the next time I catch shit for my unabashed love of def leppard's Pyromania album.

Time for (another) Rancid tenner.

Anyone wanna volunteer?
I would, except I have most of their stuff on vinyl.

Anyway, a few suggestions for songs that I would put on there:

Radio
Roots Radicals
Ruby Soho
Rwanda
Time Bomb
Salvation
Black Derby Jacket
The Wolf
The Ballad of Jimmy & Johnny

I loves me some Rancid, but I would never say that they're better than The Clash.

Although they've been more consistently good, (admit it, The Clash did put out some real dreck), The Clash's highs were a LOT higher.

I'm really getting tired of you 30-somethings clutching on to your older brother's album collection and proclaiming it the greatest music of all time.

I will give them that the chorus of "This Place" is pretty damn awesome. I've never liked when they go into the ska shit though.

oh please.

the radio told you to like Rancid, and you gave in declaring "man, this is great, wow, even better than The Clash".

you have yourself convinced we all have it wrong, when you're actually the one that's confused.

I bought Clash records when they came out too and while I like Rancid, I still like the Clash better.

Wow that's exactly how I feel about rads and why I never listen to his opinion. Irony!

I didn't download this because I have it on advance order and can wait til it gets here for a listen. I don't agree with the idea that Rancid is better than the Clash. I don't know whether Rads thinks they are or they aren't. If you guys could read though, you'd know he never said that. He listed 4 songs by Rancid that he thinks are better than anything the Clash ever did. I only recognize 2 of the songs he mentioned, both of which are pretty great. Rancid's flaw isn't that they don't reach greatness at their best, its that they don't consistently do it. I wouldn't personally say that those songs are better than anything the Clash ever did, but far crazier things have been posted here by everyone that is chuckling over it and losing respect for rads based on it.
