I can think of maybe 2 tracks from Trans. that I like, but it's more from the position of admiring Walla's sound than actually liking the material (New Year, title track). Plans was, to my ears, literally the sound of settling, but hey, if the brainiac thing turns out to be true, that's fantastic. I haven't seen them live since that "death and dismemberment" tour, so I guess hating the band for their fans doesn't really enter the pic for me.

Looking back, I think "styrofoam plates" was the song that ultimately clued me into how much I didn't really care for Gibbard's songwriting/lyrics, but the guy's so gosh darned endearing, it's hard to really hate his band.

But hey, if they manage to pull down 80mil on the basis of their career through their Monster, more power to 'em!

I remember this day in Athens history very clearly.

I didn't like Plans at all, but I still really like this band. My anticipation level for the new one is about at 7.5/10

I can say this straight-faced and without hyperbolic intention. They truly are the litmus test of modern douchebagdom and bad taste. If you like this band, you are a pansy.

The term "douchebag" sure gets a lot of play among the douchebags on this board.

I think they're dull but certainly far from worst.

I feel like i would have listened to them if they had come out five years earlier, but they came out when I was taking a long break from indie rock.

i think they are a great band but understand how people would hate them.

my order:

We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes
The Forbidden Love e.p.*
The Stability e.p.*

The Photo Album
Plans

Transatlanticism
Narrow Stairs

Something About Airplanes

You Can Play These Songs with Chords
is awful.

I first started listening to them with Transatlanticism and still adore that album.

Like the rest of the stuff okay, though I don't own it all.

Will still gladly give anything new they put out a chance.
