Anybody heard this? I know it doesn't come out until the 6-9 but I've already read a couple of reviews (including a glowing 4/5 stars in Rolling Stone of all places).

had it for about a week, fanfuckingtastic.

note: normally I am not a huge fan of Kim Gordon tracks, can't stand her voice, but she's got some of the best ones on here.

they are getting their subscription to AARP, it doesn't how good or bad their album is, it'll get 4 stars.

Every Sonic Youth release is hailed as their best since ________. Such praise and subsequent disappointment has led me to quit paying attention to them.

The disappointment just means you hate good music.

Thankfully that is your problem and not mine.

That's it! I'm glad you finally figured out my problem. Now, if I can just find a board for haters of good music.

Give me a link to your last.fm playlists so I can see the last time you listened to Sonic Youth's 00s output.

I haven't listened to much new music recently because not much has really looked interesting to me. So I'll probably check it out.

I thought Rather Ripped was pretty good all things considered.

Also, Dave and Dale: you guys have had this for a week and not hooked it up? I realize I've been working a lot more but fuck, y'all ninga's is falling down on the job.

this page might also be relevant, since it breaks down what Sonic Youth I tend to listen to.

I've had it for quite a while, but only listened once, and it was a pretty inattentive listen. Will go back. Bloor, you obviously don't have a list of the right blogs, either.

Also, is that an attempt at "niggas" or "ninjas"? I could see it being either.

I haven't been a fan of their 00s work, and this one doesn't change that in the least. Better than Rather Ripped? Sure, but that's not a very big feat in my opinion.

I think I'd rank this decade's albums as:

NYC G&F
Sonic Nurse
Murray Street
The Eternal
The Destroyed Room (if that counts)
Rather Ripped

But I'm not a big fan of any of them, and I also haven';t heard many of them since soon after they came out so this list could be a little skewed. If I want to listen to Sonic Youth, I'll listen to an 80s album. I may have heard the songs a thousand times, but at least they were exciting then.

Agree. It's funny. I don't listen to SY very often but I have around 10 SY albums that I actually bought at the store at some point in my life. That's puts them near the top of my "most albums by artist owned" list.

For me, most of their 00's output has been pretty interchangeable, which is to say, IMO they've been solid if not unspectacular efforts.

But, I have much respect for them and their career and a new album is always welcome. If you're a fan of the band I don't see why you wouldn't check this out.

FWIW, I think "Murray Street" is their best effort this decade but it's close with the others.

Kinda the same for me as well, and I thought "Rather Ripped" was a damn good "rock" record for them. Looking forward to hearing this, and going to a listening party for it next week. I gotta brush up on these cats for their gig at ACL Fest in October.
