Ebony Rhapsody: The Great Ellington Vocalists

Excellent single disc summation of some of the greatest vocal performances featured as part of Ellington's big band. Mostly bluesy ballads and some jump and swing tunes tossed in. A great collection for anyone who enjoys Ellington of jazz vocals as well as a great introduction to Ellington for anyone new to jazz that still likes to hear a singer taking center stage.

i was actually working (for real) while this was on, so i was only half paying attention. nothing really stood out and it seemed pretty sleepy overall. i'll run thru it again for sure. i did find an album of theirs called the happy pocket which i guess never got properly released, but it was really good. more in line with their older stuff than weightlifting or this one.

i just threw this on though...let me know if you want a link:

The Caribbean

Quote:
American folk-pop deconstructionists The Caribbean have teamed up with engineer, producer, mixologist Scott Solter (Spoon, Okkervil River, The Mountain Goats) and Hidden Shoal to bring you Scott Solter Re-Populates The Caribbean. The EP consists of five tracks from The Caribbean’s 2007 Hometapes record Populations which were sent to Solter to deconstruct, warp, and otherwise obliterate. The result is a set of dizzying curve balls that split the difference between glistening songcraft and complete re-construction.

Thanks estone. I think Happy Pocket is the first Trashcan Sinatras album. It did get proper release in Europe but not the US and was out of print for a long time. I think its one of their weaker albums though. I like everything they've done though so I assume I'll like the new one. All their albums are pretty mellow though and take some listens to grow on me so if that's the case for this one its nothing unexpected.

I'm not listening to that much afrobeat anymore so unless that Tony Allen is really good, I'll probably pass but thanks for the offer.
