My first thought was "oh HELL no!"

But I'm against the whole guitar hero/rock band thing.

Kids should be picking up instruments and sweating in their best friend's parents garage and screaming into a mic that's running through a peavey practice amp via an xlr to 1/4 inch cord they bought at radio shack.

But if it gets kids to pay some attention to The Beatles, that'd be a good thing. What songs are they putting on it?

Shit, if it gets some obnish to listen to The Beatles, that'd be a step in the right direction.

I'm not a huge fan, either. But the other day I was in the car with my 10 yr old son...SRV came on the radio, a song I knew he had never heard before. He asked, "Dad, is this Stevie Ray Vaughn? Cause I recognize the guitar sound, it's like Pride and Joy from Guitar Hero"

This beats the crap out of Radio Disney. I shed a tear.

Rancid is better than the Clash.

The Dave Clark Five is better than the Beatles.

I hear your point, but RB/GH actually do have some educational value at younger ages. Its a perfect tool for teaching basic music concepts, such as difference between higher and lower notes, beat and rhythm, and manual dexterity. It also is a relatively inexpensive drum trainer--and surely less annoying to parents than having junior bang on a drum kit in the basement.

I learned how to play guitar when I was 12 or so. I wish GH was available then. I was always incredibly sloppy, GH would have tightened my rhythm. In addition, I almost never used my pinky except for chords and GH would have helped unlock it.

And I've heard tons of stories like Gordo's. I like that kids are getting exposed to old school rock and roll again.

That trailer was cool, I think I be more likely to try this game than DJ Hero...which sounds incredibly lame.

The bigger news should be that the Drive By Truckers recently got "Three Dimes Down" added to the Rock Band catalog.

They have officially arrived.

I dunno, Backyard Babies are on the Guitar Hero: Legends. I think we can all agree that Backyard Babies are not huuuuuge.

Should've inserted tongue in cheek icon.

Also, I think I read that that DBT's song will be on a list of downloadable songs and not actually on the game.

Which is to say, it most likely won't help them much at all. Nickelback will have more deep cuts downloaded than Three Dimes Down.

I only sorta dislike Guitar Hero because I cannot fucking play it for the life of me. I keep wanting to play actual notes.

I haven't seen a thing on it, I just read that there was some turntable involved. It seems like it would be a hard thing to pull off successfully.

i'mgonnatakeshitforthisbut Lemme see if I'm imagining this correctly:

- You use a simulated turntable to simulate mixing together simulations of other people's mixed-together borrowed music? I mean, it's just you swishing your fingers back and forth on a fake turtable and fading things in and out at the right time?

Put another way, I guess I already felt like being a real dj was sorta like playing guitar hero. Probably out of ignorance, but, well yeah.
