For those of you familiar with Seussical, I've been cast as General Genghis Khan Schmitz. Not my first choice, but it's probably the best fit for me. Also has a challenging solo number and show-stealing potential. Pretty pumped.

We were on lockdown at work today when someone reported that there was someone with a gun walking around the Princeton University Campus (which is right next to where I work). They locked the buildings, told us to stay inside, and there were 5 news copters circling overhead. Turned out to only be a group of juveniles who had picked up a toy gun that some Princeton student had thrown out when they moved out, but man if it didn't seriously disrupt things for about an hour. Chances are they aren't even going to charge the kids with anything because they really didn't do anything wrong...they didn't even know they were causing all that trouble until police approached them.

A crazy Wednesday indeed.

I live nearly 8 years in Flint goddamn Michigan and never have one problem in the place where I lived.

This past weekend, rape/murder in the apartment complex where I've lived for just over a year.

Statistically, yes.

Keep in mind, I haven't been writing regularly in over a year - just bits and pieces for our Web site and a couple odd freelance jobs a month. So I'm not in game shape, you might say.

As a goof, I put in to interview Yanni to preview his show here next Friday. Had 15 minutes on the phone with him this afternoon. Fairly standard stuff; good answers to questions, he was really agreeable and personable. But 15 mins is 15 mins - you're not going to get more than one good anecdote or piece of insight while also covering all the necessary ground because there's just not enough time. So I'm thinking this is a nice 12-15 inch secondary section front story.

Nope. Main centerpiece. 25 inches (that's about 1,000 words, give or take). Due tomorrow morning.

Editor; "I know it was a short interview, so you're really going to have to bring something to the story yourself." Yikes. I appreciate the vote of confidence, but wow.

All that to say, I got a looooong night ahead of me.

All you need is a slant, like "Yanni is the godfather of Sigur Ros". Done.

As a handful of pieces to the overall puzzle, that'll work pretty damn well.
All thanks to Uncle Monger.
