Santana-Caravaserai--which is way better than the new Mars Volta.

+ Burning Spear - Songs from the Burning Spear
+ Various - Ghana Soundz, Vol II
+ Various - Les Ethiopiques 4 (1969-1974)

I'm kind of stuck in a Ethiopian/Ghanaese/Jamaican rut these days.
Trying to summon Spring.

I heard it at work the other day and thought it was a new release--I love it when that happens.

Yeah, it's becoming a favorite of mine. It took me forever to find a real copy of it.

That Harmonia album is pretty great, too, and it's fairly similar. It's the two guys from Cluster plus Michael Rother of Neu!, and it pre-dates Zuckerzeit by a few years. It's also a little bit easier to find, I think.

A mix from Sen. LooGAR. I feel like getting drunk just to have a hangover just so that I can experience this mix the way is was intended. ;)

My friend at work maintains vol I is the best--I listened to both and felt they sounded about the same.

I bought II because it was the one I had heard the most, but I'll probably end up buying I once II is worn down.

It's more low-key. Slow beats, muted horns, kind of Middle-eastern sounding. There's definitely a cross-over sound between the old Burning Spear I've been listening to, the more laid-back tracks on the Ghana compilation and this Ethiopian stuff.

Maybe someone with a broader knowledge of the interplay between Jamaican and African music could explain it...?

Alls I knows is: me likey.
