All thanks to Uncle Monger.

Also, remember that these sorts of things are easier to write if you don't believe them.

I'm going out on the razz tonight.

I've decided I'm going to have to turn up drunk at the Classical Association ball in a cowboy shirt and tatty jeans because basically they are the only clothes I have right now. Hopefully I don't get turned away at the door or that could be quite embarrassing. I'm imagining the scene now where everyone is looking out the window at me with myself having to lip sync "I can't get in....they won't let me in" and make over the top gestures to communicate my predicament while the tweedy faces of my professors peer out the window pane at me and discuss among each other things like "his eccentricity is admirable but he IS ill attired and such rambunctiousness must be frowned upon on this hallowed evening when social deportment is foremost."

Plus I've had to starve myself for two days just so, if they do let me, the drunken yahoo that I am, in, I'll be able to stomach the Greek food instead of making a screwed up face and spitting stuff into napkins. In fact, I feel a tad light headed already due to my fast, yes, everything is whizzing and whirling along in rather an invigorating fashion.

I've also decided I'm going to talk to people about how I can make goat herding financially viable in a first world country for the first time since the 18th century (my planned post university venture) and do an impromptu rendition (the word has sinister connotations now, I'm leading the charge to reclaim it) of 'Mad Dogs and English Men' whether or not anyone brings up either of the twin topics of Noel Coward or goats and then tomorrow when I wake up, no doubt the worst for wear, having made an ass of myself in front of the intellectual elite, we'll probably have a new prime minister since democracy doesn't exist in this country anymore and most leaders are now chosen or removed in backroom coups by the Grey Men of Westminster instead of by the electorate and my clowning this evening will obviously represent the Death of the Nation and the Descent in to Tyranny and therefore be of historical significance like a sort of inverted version of that big party Eva Braun threw for German society in the bunker at the very moment Koniev and Zhukov sniffed their blood on the air.

Then on Monday in order to flee the collapsing social and political masonry I'm running away to the mountains and hopefully I'll meet some Dutch or Belgian girls who are the dominant form of wildlife in the Scottish Highlands and woo her by saying "Your name is Anke! Be still my beating heart!".

Good day to you, sir or madam.

Darrin, I just noticed your Peel quote.

This is one of my favorite show descriptions ever....

Show starts.

A motorcycle revving noise.

Someguitarsbeingveryloudandheavy.

Then some guitars beingveryloudandheavy with a man shouting. all last about five seconds.

"Three tracks from Napalm Death, there, in session tonight..."

I get a paid week off to take care of my kid when he/she's born. Is that common? Low? High? I have no sense of these things.

Shit, I think rparsi got like a month.

I haven't decided how much time to take off but a week sounds pretty good.

California allows 12 weeks -- paid by the EDD, the same folks who handle unemployment.

i think 1 week paid is common practice, though i don't believe they have to give anything "paid" for paternity leave. i took another 2 weeks vacation after my 1 week.

you'll want at least a week off. you'll be pretty useless at work (unless you can sleep there). you're going to get some pretty regularly-interrupted sleep for the first few weeks and generally just be walking around in a haze.

I have a lot of vacation accrued, but the wife has pretty well planned every second of it out through New Years.
