How the shit does anyone tolerate grown-ass emo men in 2009?

i hear more DC emo than Lawrence, KS emo, but i hear emo nonetheless. at the very least, a nod in that direction

or maybe, more accurately, some crank records stuff recorded with DFA-style production

Somewhat, but I think there are equal nods to other 90's indie guitar bands (and DC bands, specifically) that aren't emo.

Whatever, you can pretty much tell the dudes' age and what kind of stuff they were listening to, but that doesn't make it the same thing as their influences.

isnt that the definition of "influence" in a musical context?

Look at the front cover dude.

Even the slightest, vaguest, loosest connection, nod, or link to emo or anything "soaring" is too fucking much.

That was a badly worded sentence, but what I meant was that the Japandroids are not the same as their influences.

I don't know who could argue with such a bulletproof analysis.

Speaking of analysis, I'm posting way too much in a thread about a band that doesn't really stand up to any, but is best just experienced at a gut level, blasting from your car speakers after a really long, shitty day.

Can we fucking move on and not let this be the next Vampire Weekend? Or is it already too late for that?

If this shit hits you in the gut and not in that part between your eyeballs and your brain where migraines dwell, you should probably climb a really tall tree and jump down.

I think Grizzly Bear is the new Vampire Weekend, so this would make Japandroids the new Grizzly Bear. Such is the acceleration of culture and all.

If you threw all 3 of those bands in a bag and shook them up, I couldn't choose which one sucked worse, but I could choose HOW each one sucketh.

You seem to be the one in greater misery here, so maybe you should just do us all a favor and put yourself out of it rather than insisting on spreading it around.

Or just let it fucking go and move on, how about that?

It's a message board. This is what is referred to as a discussion of music. If such things aren't to your liking, what are you doing here?

I didn't even understand what your "request" entailed. Seems like I said I thought this band was the worst kind of amateurism, and you came back with your opinion which was "this isn't opinion, it's fact". Not much to say to you after that.

No, I replied to your comment about there being another level of irony (in response to my irony comment), asking you to elaborate.

"If you like this band you should kill yourself" is a great addition to any discussion topic especially when you've already made your stance clear.

"Pretentious"?

You're doing a really good job vying for the title of biggest self-obsessed, self-righteous, antagonistic ass-bag on the board lately, which is quite an accomplishment.

Oh, well that's a totally different subject. It's not my job to spell out the reality of what goes on on this board. You either notice it or you don't.

No, no. Enlighten me, please.

Because apparently I'm just hopelessly delusional.
