Ray Charles & Milt Jackson: Soul Brothers & Soul Meeting

Two great bluesy jazz sessions on one CD, featuring instrumentals with Ray Charles taking turns on piano, electric piano and even the sax and Milt taking his usual spot behind the vibes with several other excellent players filling things out. This album is about as good an example I can think of if you want to find that sweet spot where jazz, soul and the blues collide.

So apparently there's a new Wolf Eyes album called Always Wrong that either just came out or is about to come out.

Yeah, thanks. I was just looking at that.

I may have to grab it because it looks like this is going to be an expensive import.

Like his cosmic gun-slinging alter ego on the cover, Blackbelt Andersen shoots lasers from the hip and takes no prisoners on his debut album for Prins Thomas’s Full Pupp label. This is no collection of random 12â€

Apparently I fail at images today. Well, who needs images when text is MUCH MUCH BETTER.

The Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca
...Was excited to see this was on eMusic on Tuesday and grabbed it without a second thought. Love it, LOVE IT. My first exposure to the band was seeing them live, and a lot of their prior albums don't have that same feeling to them. This one comes much closer (though I still need to get their prior album, which should be even closer to the live experience.) Anyway, I just picked up the new Sonic Youth album today, but have yet to listen to it. But I'm guessing between the two albums there will be a pretty solid best two albums of the year so far.

Jars of Clay - The Long Fall Back To Earth
...I really want to hate this album because it panders to the sort of pop flavor-of-the-month sounds that I despise. Still, the songwriting solid (though not as great as on their last few releases) and the choruses are catchy enough to keep me coming back.
