I think Opa started this and people just began posting their favorite songs. A person was not allowed consecutive posts.

Edit: and it's nice to see DS Bruce around again.

Did you complile/curate all this, Eric? I was leaning towards that when I was trying to come up with how this came about and how the voting worked...

There was no voting. It was just songs submitted in somewhat random order by posters. Nothing suggested was vetoed and they appear in the order that they were suggested.

There's nothing really special about the list in that regard. I think it was the impetus for alot of people starting to post at cmj though.

Wasn't there an effort to step in and stop any more Modest Mouse entries at some point?

this thing was 2002 though. before my time and thus, before your time.

i know, because i remember OPA! hitting on you when you first arrived.

I was on CMJ prior to 2001, I know that.

And I'm laughing about OPA...that was frickin' hilarious!

Right? I evidently invented a completely different universe in which the way I recall this thing being spawned came about. I did arch an eyebrow at the list, but then, 2002 seems like at least one lifetime ago.

Not posting under that name. This top 1000 was when I started posting and I know I'd been there awhile when you were nominated as best new boarder in the "Annual" Opa Awards. I wonder if DS Bruce has an email about that.
