I copied and pasted this list into a Notepad file years ago when I lurked at the CMJ board. I still keep track of how many songs on this list I have listened to and own.

I'm going to start listening to the ones that I forgot or haven't listened to tonight. It should make for an interesting couple days.

As someone who wasn't part of the board back then. I'm curious how this list was even compiled. That just seems impossible.

It was a running thread where everyone just posted one of their favorite songs with the unwritten stipulation that it was basically indie and an album cut instead of necessarily a single. It went on for months, if I remember. Seems like it was etiquette to wait until at least 20 or so were posted before posting another. Thus, there is no "order" absolute best to just good, as billy mentioned I believe. Of course, I could have just dreamed all of this.

That's how I remember it too. Also, there were a couple of boarders more obsessed with the project than most. I think nickisnotdead, for example, was responsible for approximately 763 of the 1,000 songs.
