Word the heard, D. That ziti reminds me it's been too long since I've done up a proper Eye-Tie gut bomb!

Church only takes an hour. Still leaves PLENTY of time for recovering, spilling back more whiskey & beer, groping, and eating ziti/meatballs on fresh baked bread sandwiches.

you must not have had the rambling make-it-up-as-you-go-fire-breathin-sermon-singin-praises-an'-shoutin'-glory-til-your-hypmotized-followed-by-the-glassy-eyed-meet-n-greet-on-the-way-out evangelical protestant experience that i recall from my youth

takes at least 4 hours

Hell, even the sit down, kneel down, stand up Catholic masses I've been to, take less than an hour.

I quit church when I couldn't find one around here that wasn't either Dana Carvey As Church Lady or Delicious Dish As Sunday Coffee Social.

Have better things to do than grimace through weekly pathetic twistings of scripture designed to make fearful whitey feel there's hope his fictional fundamentalist America will somehow return. Or conversely sit through non-fundamentalist services so vague in belief you come away with nothing other than that the fundies have better songs.

Black churches, yo. Preferably one set up in an abandoned storefront or school, where three-quarter length royal blue/purple/mint green suitcoats are an essential for the men. Those services are like rock n roll, and I felt 10 times more welcome and inspired than I ever did at the Catholic and Lutheran services I was dabbled in growing up.

If I were ever to head toward the holy, it'd be down that road.

The services are now, however, brief.

I never knew why people go to church anyway because even the really religious people look bored.

That's cause they are religious. There's the problem. If they just went to worship, then they wouldn't be bored.

this is the truth.

my grandma - a die-hard republican, self-described greenhorn from trimble county KY - goes to a church like this. a tiny old white lady in a shawl with a beat-up and markered-up KJV, in a sea of mint green riddim fo jesus

it's amazing

And worship should be about feeling, and not two hours of fear, misinformation and intolerance.

I'm glad your experiences have been good.

Food is how I worship. I feed my friends, and that's our church.

Or does that not work?

Yesterday morning was poached eggs over biscuits with sausage gravy and bacon and lots of black coffee.

We definitely were at peace.
