ok...some of the songs sound like the eels.....

track 5 reminds me of a cleaner (vocals) version of the walkmen....

point is: check out this disc.....its good.

how is their older stuff?

their album Medieros (I think) is very good, sort of slow, I can't think of the words, it's like 10+ years old. Very heartbreaking.

that said, they are TERRIBLE live. Or were....

I enjoyed the indie-pop goodness of Hope & Adams, but was pretty disappointed with Per Second, Per Second, which seemed way too precious for me.

I've listened to the new album, but need to spend some more time with it before I can come to any surefire personal conclusions.

Like Kerry said they're terrible live, and I saw them live before i ever heard their recorded output.

Totally destroyed any chances for me.

i'll check this out.

medeiros and hope and adams are good. the other albums are just okay.

i think i saw them live twice. first time they were great, then they kind of attracted the white hat crowd and got annoying.

Same experience here. Maybe I should have checked out their studio stuff but when I saw them open for Wilco (I think), they were just awful.

Is this the one with "I met a girl I'd like to know better" on it? That was a great single, but the rest of the album was a huge let-down for us.

The difference between the understated Hope & Adams and that Per Second album is one of the craziest leaps into slick-dom you'll ever hear.

I never gave the last record a chance. I'll check this out.

there was another album that came out before this new one that was more like the first two but i don't think the songs were as good. they blamed that whole per second album on the major label they were on.

I think that's correct. I have it around here somewhere still.

I'll stand up for Wheat's per second album. I think it's excellent and their best one. It sounds like a lost Thin Lizzy album. Much better than their previous efforts both sound/production-wise and quality of songs.

After per second they released this:

"Everyday I Said A Prayer For Kathy and Made A One-Inch Square"

Image

which I thought was more similar to their earlier stuff

I've liked what I've heard so far... Glad they are returning to form because they really went off the rails for a bit trying to appeal to the masses.
