all these years later, i don't know why reading that still bothers me. But i still don't understand what is so groundbreaking or interesting about it.


I think the fact that it was entirely composed on an MPC60 and is considered to be the first album entirely made from sampled sources is pretty huge.


I'm always skeptical of any "first album to" claims, especially with this album, which came out at a time when there was tons of innovation in electronic music. I like this album, but it has always bugged me that it's the one electronic album from the mid-to-late '90s (prior to Boards of Canada) that hogs all the praise.

I mean, who really gives a shit if it was composed on an MPC60, a GameBoy, or a fucking electric flute?

i like abbey road fine. my heart says go with afghan whigs, but for purely defensive reasons, i'm voting the smiths to (hopefully) block dj shadow.

Some people feel differently. You might like their more recent albums. You might not. I wouldn't really expect you to.

I've heard a song or two here and there that I thought was better than the material on Sung Tongs but in general you are probably right.
