Everyone says they don't consider reissues when making their top 10, 20, or 39 of the year. We already have a couple of best of 2009 threads so here's another. What are your favorite reissues from this year. I haven't bought as many as I usually do but this one is probably my top one so far:

A mindblowing set from Little Richard -- a stunning comeback session from the start of the 70s -- recorded at Muscle Shoals with a heavy funk component in the mix! Richard arranged and produced the record himself -- and it's a beautiful illustration of his genius -- hardly dimmed at this point in his career, and if anything, really redefined for a new generation -- with some razor-sharp grooves that are perfect for his hard-wailing vocals! The title cut -- "The Rill Thing" -- is a monster 10 minute instrumental jam, with a heavy funk sound that you can't even begin to imagine -- and the rest of the set is pretty amazing too, with tracks that include "Spreadin' Natta What's The Matter", "Freedom Blues", "Two Time Loser", "Somebody Saw You", "Lovesick Blues", and "Greenwood Mississippi"

Red Red Meat - Bunny Gets Paid

This has been my introduction to RRM. Great album, and some of the stuff on the bonus disc is great, too, like their cover of Low's "Words".

Jorge Ben - Forca Bruta

Lula Cortes - Rosa de Sangue (waiting for this one to arrive)

Ofege - Try & Love - an absolute fave, and highly recommended.

I've gotten a fair number of soul/funk reissues this year as well, but I'm not sure exactly when they were repressed...

Surprised you hadn't heard that before. I agree, it is a really good album.

I mentioned briefly in the 2009 1/2 list thread that one of the 2 things I've been playing more than anything else lately is from 2002, Josh Ritter's debut, Golden Age of Radio. I started listening to his stuff at the 2nd album, Hello Starling, really, really like all of them, but for some reason, never got around to picking up the debut.

When the remaster came out, complete with bonus disk of him performing the whole album acoustic, I bought it, and have been very impressed from the first listen. To my ears, this is a damned near perfect effort, and one of the best debuts I've ever heard.

Absolutely. I mean, if you don't already have the older version. I've never heard the older version and can't compare, but the reissue is pretty reasonably priced and has some good bonus material (though not a whole lot).

And Rads, yeah, even though I'm a pretty big Califone fan, I just never got around to RRM until now. I still don't have any of their other albums, but I'm kinda waiting to see if SubPop is going to reissue them.

i have some bad news, as this was posted on my other board:

just heard from our head buyer here at Amoeba that the US domestic release of the Collector's Box is cancelled?!?! WTF?!

please tell me it's some SKU bullshit and they're relisting it soon...cos I can't pay $140 for this!
