Anyone heard all of The Fallen Leaf Pages yet?
Not until it hits the store next week, but that's one I'm looking forward to. Huge fan here of And The Surrounding Mountains. Still one of my favorites from the last few years. Love that sense of connection between the songs, the macabre thread running through them, like they're all fragments of a story that's never completely told. And some rather twisted tales of death and salvation hiding beneath the innocently delivered lyrics, kind of like the Handsome Family. Nice album.
I've talked some around here about another recent debut album that hits me with those same Neil Young and Crazy Horse as reinvisioned by Doug Martsch and his Built To Spill or Jason Molina and one of his bands. Wayne Robbins and the Hellsayers. The Lonesome Sea. Check in the archive if you like this kind of music because these guys are top notch. Great lyrics with some of that same quirky detachment as the Radar Brothers. Topics that sometimes brush up against the metaphysical and mystical, like Martsch. And the melancholy, like Molina. Pretty nice and uncompressed sound along with HDCD encoding for those that care about these type of things.
