any cali-obners catch them on tour this past week?

i'm starting to get pumped for red rocks this friday. all of the reviews i've read online have been pretty positive.

i'm also looking forward to catching okkervil river opening up.

Caught 'em 2 weeks ago in OKC.
Yeah,it's not like the current line-up is new or anything, but it seems like they're kinda hitting their stride.
Oh,and they played 3 or 4 new songs from the new one. One Wing and Bull Black Nova are great.
And yes, there will be douchebags. Tweedy called one out for shining a laser pointer on him. It was beautiful.
Wait,Red Rocks with Okkervil River opening? That's just not fair.

realizing full well that obner is in the midst of a wilco-backlash, i stick my neck out here to proclaim that they are the best. band. ever. this was my 8th time seeing them, and by far the best show to date, and possibly the best concert i've ever been to. having the best seat in the house certainly changes a show, but it was also pretty clear that they were having a great time playing for us as well. tweedy seems to be in great spirits -- great banter with the crowd, smiling and laughing...haven't seen that in, well, forever. they played for a solid 2 1/2 hours and genuinely did not want to stop. one of my favorite moments was at the end of "ashes" (which just kills live now - if you've seen their latest dvd, you know), while nels was completely freaking out, tweedy just stood there, with the biggest shit-eating grin, watching in awe for the last 30 or so seconds that nels was abusing his guitar. other highlights: stirratt stepping up to the mic for "it's just that simple"; the tweedy kids coming onstage to play cowbell during "hoodoo voodoo"; okkervil river joing the band for "california stars". seriously, i'm still coming down from this show...just an incredible time.

some pics:

really not much more i could ask for in a set-list. they are really mixing up everything. new songs sounded great..."bull black nova" and "one wing" being highlights.

okkervil river were awesome (didn't realize i have been pronouncing their name wrong all these years)

kinda bummed i didn't get nels in this shot....

I had a similar experience when I saw them awhile back, J. Really good live show.

I just wish they'd fucking drop walken from the setlist...the biggest clunker in their catalog and doesn't get any better live.

... the fuck?

I saw them at a house party here last year and I swear Will said it in a manner that rhymed with "rock".

So; "Rock-er-ville" is what I'm sticking with.

Yeah, when I saw them I thought he pronounced it auck-er-ville, like he was clearing his throat, because up until that point I had said Oh-ker-ville.
