With a bit more B3 and a little less female vocal in the mix, you'd swear The Band lives. Excellent.

Echo & the Bunnymen - Porcupine

for the life of me I can't remember what I was listening to prior to this. Weird. Well, it wasn't this, but I did spin this recently:

Despite the Neutral Milk Hotel comparisons I keep reading about, I quite like this album. Of course all the southern AB references (Frank slide, the bridge in Lethbridge) are a nice touch.

I picked this up because of those NMH comparisons. Yeah, the vocals are definitely reminiscent of NMH, but the music---not so much. Really liking it overall.

NMH anything is generally a deal breaker for me, but I was curious about the Alberta aspect so I gave it a shot. Glad I did.

Here's Frank Slide, which is about 40 min or so away from me:

Double Standart with Lee Perry & Ari Up: Return From Planet Dub

Nice album that takes a selection of classic Lee Perry rhythms and updates them with a modern sheen and some new sound effects and melodies. Features Scratch and Ari Up vocalizing over the top. Nothing groundbreaking in most ways, but the update of classic sounds works really well. Overall a nice listen that will probably get a lot of play for me this summer.

Still listening and once you get into the second disc there is a big dubstep influence on a lot of the tracks.
