Can someone respond quickly to this post??

Liberalism is socialism. Liberalism involves removing personal liberties by non-voluntary monetary involvment in whatever system the rulers decide on because it's for "the greater good". Last time I checked, taking people's money against their will was theft, and should be curtailed, rather than encouraged.

Liberalism is socialism because both seek to reduce their subjects to the lowest common denominator. You take the hardest working, smartest citizens and force them to pay for the lifestyle choices of the laziest and least valuable (in terms of voluntary contribution to their communities). You there by subsudize laziness and destroy initiative and entrepeneurship, not to mention fostering an entitlement mentality and eliminating the concept of personal responsibility.

Liberalism is socialism.

it's hardly worth replying to, the logic is so flawed. i mean, someone can believe day is night given the right circumstances and habits, but does that make it so for the rest of us?

thats a very american way of looking at left wing ideologies. liberalism is basically socialism lite. heres what wikipedia says:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberalism#Liberalism_today
socialism is concerned with incorperating the works of marx into democratic structure. communism would be marx's works incorporated into a totalitarian structure.

even in the first paragraph, the bias of the author is intruding on their perception of reality: essentially, "rulers rob individuals using a smokescreen." if you truly believe that is the case in a representative democracy, why bother taking the next leap in logic and assume that "liberalism" somehow is conflated with "state ownership of production"?

Explain to me how this definition differs from simple taxation.

I will just point out that FDR (and henceforth most liberal prgrams) saved capitalism from itself and actually most likely stopped communism/socialism growing appeal in America.

Also, if you define liberalism as being socially liberal, its actually closer to conservatism. (i.e. if you believe strongly in personal freedom, gay marriage ain't that big a deal)

Like building roads and asking that people stop at stop signs. All a matter of degree.

Stop taking large sums of my money for building bombs and invading other countries and I will stop taking tiny bits of your money for social welfare programs.

Also pretty sure no one asked you if you wanted a police force or a fire department, but there you go.

Well, some of the far right loony contingent are already arguing against the necessity for a public school system, mostly because all dat fancy book-learnin' never done nuthin' fer dem.

School Bond issues usually are needed to build new schools, and in rural states like Nebraska you see communities all the time decide whether or not to fund a police force or volunteer fire department. It's not the "sexy" part of democratic politics, but it happens.
We have also had votes about whether or not we should dissolve and consolidate schools and/or force small unincorporated towns into being part of near by cities/towns.
Tax levy and bond votes also usually apply to things like road infrastructure, new jails, etc.

I'm still trying to figure out how social conservatism fits in with the whole, get government out of people's lives stance.

it doesn't fit at all

but i guess if you can convince yourself that the world is 6003 years old, it's not much more an intellectual stretch
