This movie is a pile of dogshit and I want those two hours of my life back. We all took a philosophy class at one point and had those silly thoughts, but were never pretentious enough to write a screenplay about them.

I immediately watched Evil Dead right after to redeem my soul.

Yeah I don't even look at it from the philosophical pov.

I just think the dialogue is hilarious.

This seems to be another polarizing movie. Some seem to love it a lot. Is it like Waking Life at all, in terms of theme? I haven't screened it yet and will even if it means 2 hrs of my life. No movie, absolutely no movie will infuriate me regarding wasted hours like Armageddon. I thought about suing someone after that.

I actually just finished watching IHH for the second time, and still loved it.

On the other hand, I watched The Evil Dead a few weeks ago for the first time and found it boring and cliche.

I liked the chemisty between Schwartzman and Marky Mark, but other then that, it bored me.

Everyone keeps throwing this "pretentious" around. What the hell? If you studied it once before, why is it so "pretentious?" I just thought of it as a funny, "why am I here, romp," like Albert Brooks' "Defending Your Life." Anyway, it seems to have created quite a divide amongst likers and haters.

But when Mark Wahlberg was Marky Mark, this is how we would get the party to start: we'd sit back with Bacardi dark...

He also produced Entourage, which was a funny show as well.

i don't think it took the philisophical aspect seriously enough to be considered pretentious. it was so sillyand styalized that it removed it from any kind of naval gasing or deep thinking. I found the symbalism was almost a fake distraction from the real goal of the movie, to be silly and strange.

it achieved those modest goals and i enjoyed it.
not great, not terrible.

I am amused that I am motivated to post most when there is a "critically approved CD or movie" or "cool culture icon" that is being re-evaluated and questioned. Must be something from the shadows.

Yeah, I never got this movie. Precious, self-satisfied, taking it self too seriously and trying much too hard. Simply having a philosphical base in no way means something is watchable, listenable, or readable. Art is art and philosophy is philosophy and they don't live on the same street. That's why you can have supreme art that is connected to scary philosophy (Wagner, Celine... et.al.)

This movie was smarmy.

Yup. That's about it for me too. I love Schwartzman(have a big crush on him) so I sat through this.

It ended up being one of those movies I had my eyebrow arched through the whole thing saying "huh? what the hell?".

Jude Law sucked and Naomi Watts, meh.
