It's gotten really good reviews. I should probably get around to this.

On my list...I read a few McCarthy books last year, so it'll be some time later this year before I give this one a go. Might hold out for the paperback.

It's an amazing read. Intense and disturbing though.

Yep, that's McCarthy. Which is why I think I'll hold off for a bit. :)

Got it for Christmas and read it in a few days. Very simple and uncluttered. I've never read anything by him, but I'll definitely check some other stuff out.

I'm sure movie rights all already being bandied about. Could be great if they keep the simple beauty of it.

I thought All the Pretty Horses was awesome but I was told the rest of his stuff wasn't as good. I think I'm gonna catch up on his back catalog.

Some of it, sure. But, the style, as severe and dark as it can be, is quite illuminating and perfectly fits the landscape and themes (and vice versa).

I can see why people who responded well to Pretty Horses/Border Triology may not enjoy some of his other work, but all in all, he doesn't pull his punches.

Hey Guaps.

Hey Kevin. You nailed it, I'm reading his 2005 novel "No Country For Old Men". Although it does not pack the visceral emotional punch of "The Road", who wants to read a book light that 2 times in a row.

I read this in a single sitting on 4th of July. And I pretty much can't fucking shake it.

I wake up in the middle of the night and certain parts of it are in my head.

And, we had a power outage and it really fucking freaked me out (those that have read it know why.)

Trying to figure out if I really want to read anything else by the guy.

All that said - this had the potential to be an even BETTER movie, if it's done right.

This was my reaction also, when I read it a year or so ago. Fucking haunting book.

I disagree strongly with your movie expectations, though. I dread seeing the movie. It's never going to match the evening/early morning I spent, nose folded into this book, apprehension keeping me up turning pages until I'd finished it.

I also read it within the past couple of weeks... it's a quick read, but it really does stick with you. It's a unique book... horror/love story.. The book wasn't only moving, it had a GSYBE soundtrack running through my head.

Unfortunately, looks like the upcoming movie is shooting for blockbuster status by abandoning the themes of the book.. The trailers for the upcoming film do injustice to the book...

Read this a few months ago. Everyone I come in contact with that has read it experiences the same haunting feeling upon finishing it. Amazing piece of modern fiction.

I'm pretty excited about the film. Its directed by the the same guy who did The Proposition, and early stills look promising. I put no stock in this, but apparently Viggo's performance is Oscar-worthy. Also, I've read that this could be a contender for best pic this year. Cannot wait.

Johnny Hillcoat won't fuck this up. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are doing the soundtrack too.

This review from Esquire magazine put all my concerns about the movie to rest. Apparantly, that trailer was another one of Harvey Weinstein's crappy ideas.

Well since they are now nominating 10 Best Pictures, that's a safe bet!

I'm reading Blood Meridian right now, and it's brilliant. Highly recommended and not as soul shattering as the Road. More historical. Set in the Mexico/Texas west of the 1840s.

As much as I love The Road, Blood Meridian is probably the better novel. It's a whole lot more demanding though. The language is so dense it demands your absolute attention. And a dictionary. The Judge is probably in my top three of all time favorite literary characters. Word is that Ridley Scott is turning BM into a move as well. Not sure who they could possibly cast as The Judge though. You would have to have someone whose physical presence was overwhelming. I always though De Nero could do it but you'd have to put him on stilts.

Correction. Looks like Todd Field is now set to direct. That's a much better choice than Ridley Scott.

I'm constantly feeling like an uneducated imbecile while reading Blood Meridian. There are so many words that I am not familiar with, but it does help to expand the vocab.

Yeah, it's also difficult when vast swaths of it are in Spanish.
