LOEG was fucking awesome. $8 for that much story is a steal.

That said, the $4 books in my stack are starting to rise... I'm going to prune about 10. First up is Cap which has become so god damn boring. I love Brubaker, but he's just not into this title anymore.

He's making all these points about how the the city didn't necessarily look like some mod temple, but rather a horrible postwar concrete slab. "People seem to forget that there was garbage everywhere". I thought that was interesting.

What podcast?

word balloon. It's not one I listen to all that often, but there's a few creators that are always great to listen to (i.e. Bendis -though 6 hours of interviews gets old, Johns, Brubaker, Fraction, etc...).

I agree Cap is in a lull, but I think that's sort of what they're going for at the moment and then something big is going to happen. I hope.

I'm thinking about dropping every Avengers book, JSA, and Fables at the moment, though I'm at least 2 weeks behind on all my books. I did just pick up back issues of Giagntic, though.

This week: finale of Old Man Logan (already? now this order thing confuses me even more) and both Crossed and the finale of Back to Brooklyn, which means that Ennis has some fucked up shit coming out.

This crossover has sucked the big one. I like Mr. Dark but it's getting obvious he should have ended this thing after #75.

As for Cap Reborn... I'll pick up the first one just to see what's what. I really hope it's not Rogers.

absolutely. It's a shame, because that book got so great... and then turned to shit.

Is Cap Reborn already planned? I really hope they keep Bucky in the role for awhile. I could handle Rogers back in the Nomad role (I used to really like the Jack Monroe Nomad when I first got into comics), or even as another Cap or something.

As long as they keep Rob Leifeld the fuck away from it...

Captain America #50 is my first Cap. I was planning on starting to read it.

I'm so stoked for Blackest Night

It's not a bad issue, but it's far from monumental. I think next issue is "actually" Cap 600, so there might be some fireworks there. I can't recommend the first 50 issues of this series enough, though. This whole run has had artwork that can't be touched, and the bulk of the storytelling has been amazing. It's sort of stalling at the moment (Sharon Carter going home, Batroc the Leaper), but as I mentioned before, I think it's about to have something huge go down.

I'll be excited for Blackest Night in late December 2010, when it finally gets moving. At this rate we still have like 3 more corps/arcs to examine?

I totally forgot that Bill Hader and Seth Myers were writing a spider book.

I have to remember to read this later.

Ignition City has been really good. I also really liked the first issue of the Unwritten. And the Matt Fraction Wolverine series has potential.

By putting my favorite writer with one of my favorite artists on Detective Comics, I don't even give a shit that Bruce Wayne is gone and replaced with a lesbian. This book is going to be amazing.

Come to think of it, I like almost all of the Batman books right now.

Other than that, can somebody who's reading Green Lantern explain to me how Hal Jordan's hand just grew back like that?

There's some great stuff going on in the DC B-list books. I highly recommend Secret Six and REBELS. Booster Gold is still a lot of fun too!

Wednesday's Comics was fucking awesome. That layout on newsprint is absolutely genius. If only it was half the price, they could've re-revolutionized the game.

I also got two HC's this week: Asterios Polyp from David Mazzucchelli and The Nobody by Jeff Lemire. Other than that Vertigo just keeps on rolling with Unwritten #3 and Greek Street #1. Those $1 first issues were a great idea.

I also bought Wednesday Comics, Asterios Polyp and The Nobody. I've only read The Nobody so far though.

Anyone reading Batman & Robin or Detective Comics after Battle for the Cowl? I've been enjoying both of those books so far. I've also be rereading Green Lantern stuff starting with Sinestro Corps War since Blackest Night finally starts next week.

I've been keeping up on the Batman stuff, and it's all been awesome. Someone was saying the other day that the Superman and Batman books have never been better now that Superman and Bruce Wayne aren't in them.
I've never really liked Quitely all that much (he draws chins super weird to me), but the B&R book has been fucking amazing so far. Detective has (as I think I mentioned earlier) two of my favorite creators of all time on it, and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

As far as GL, the only main DC character I know less about is the Flash. I've been reading the main book (no corps) for the past year or so, and I'm starting to enjoy the hell out of it (or at least seeing where this plays out), but I still know I'll never get that into it without seeing Oliver Queen get involved somehow.

Just look at the pictures in the main book and don't bother reading any of it.

I think Secret Invasion might play out a lot better in a trade-type reading. I think all the buildup did more to harm that book than anything else. I like what it did to the status quo in the Marvel universe, and I think it's going to go a lot further.

My biggest beef with the whole thing was the fact that like 8-10 pages of each issue was events that had already been presented being rehashed from a different angle.

More than that, every issue of both main Avengers titles during the whole thing were doing just that. It got old really fast.

Maybe it was just my impression at the time, but the main title by itself just seemed really thin and anticlimactic. I mean, Dark Reign has been pretty fun, but I feel like the way it was set up was pretty dumb and just totally tossed off. I had kinda expected more from Bendis's big event that he'd spent so long building up.

I think that was part of his problem. Spending that long in building it up. Disassembled was such an amazing event, and I don't think he spent a decade preparing for it...

just read that issue. it looked amazing. who is she?

also read some thunderbolts. it's okay, i like that they keep introducing new characters. not diggle's best work though.

and read green lantern 43 and the first issue of blackest night. halfway through it i was just thinking "oh it's DC Zombies" but it gets great at the end.

Kathy Kane? I think that's it. She was Renee Montoya's girlfriend circa Final Crisis (or it might have been 52). There hasn't been too much character development with her, so she's still pretty mysterious. Apparently, Rucka has been guarding this character like a hawk and wouldn't let anyone else write her. It's supposedly told like anyone could be in the bat costume. But she's gonna be in that James Robinson JLA series that just started.

Jon have you checked out the Morrison/Quitely series? It's super creepy and fun.

As far as GL, I have high hopes to enjoy Blackest Night, and then promptly drop Green Lantern in favor of the Flash (which I've never liked, but trust Johns enough to stick with). I hope it's not zombies, but they're flaunting Bruce Wayne's corpse around like confetti.

Right now, considering the state of DC comics' two biggest characters, I can't help but feel like something amazing is in the works. I'm snjoying the shit out of the ride, but I know in the end, when they set the status quo back to normal or quasi-normal it's going to be fucking. awesome.

(it'd better be).

After reading Kirkman praise Geoff Johns' writing in the letters column of The Astounding Wolfman, I started to read the first trade of his Green Lantern stuff. I was bombarded with all of this two people being in the same body nonsense and all the bizarre alter egos of the black Green Lantern, the gay Green Lantern, and the other guy. I immediately thought, "Now I remember why I don't read DC books other than Batman." The characters are just so bogged down in miles and miles of bad 60's sci-fi plot-lines. It seemed like it had promise, but I couldn't get over all of the ridiculous back story. And I like comics. So, I can tolerate a lot of ridiculous.

Love Batman and Robin, though. I would read anything Morrison and Quitely do together, but this is going to be great.

I agree that Wednesday Comics is a fantastic idea. The Unwritten has been really promising as well.
