Frank Sinatra: The Platinum Collection

3 CD collection of the best Sinatra recordings from his best years at Capitol from 1953-1961. It's amazing how a 3 CD collection can be stuffed full with nothing but classics, but that's just the way it is with this collection since Sinatra in that time period was cranking them out at an amazing rate. No My Way or New York New York or other later hits. But a fantastic collection of hits from his biggest era. I Get A Kick Out Of You, Come Fly With Me, I've Got You Under My Skin, One More For The Road... Hell, I could list the entire contents. A good remaster with nice sound. If you're looking for a solid Sinatra collection from his prime years, you could do much, much worse than this one and I'm not sure you could do better.

Damn man, can you put up a link of that? I'd love to have that bugger.

I have the actual CDs and don't have time right now to upload mine. But, I did a quick blog search and this link should be able to take care of you:

so far, everything jewelled antler-related has been money. wonder how long that can hold out though.

Yeah? I remember wanting to look into all that stuff years ago, but I guess I never really did. I don't even remember who all of the bands are/were. Skygreen Leopards? Thuja? What else?

man, there are a ton. so far i've just kinda spun off of skygreen leopards to glenn donaldsons other projects like flying canyon and giant skyflower band, and then to donovan quinn and the 13th month (the other half of skygreen....).

thuja, the blithe sons...there are a bunch more to check out in the ja collective. though, from what i've read, the others seem to be on a more droney, found-sound tip.

I've been eyeing a copy of that on vinyl for a long time, but I still haven't picked it up or heard it. I know it's some of his more free/avant jazz early stuff, but how do you like it? I think all I have of his earlier stuff is that New York Contemporary Five comp which is good if not all that remarkable. (Don Cherry is much more prominant on that, I think.)

Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians - Fegmania!
Blank Dogs - Under and Under/The Fields
Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians - Gotta Let This Hen Out!

Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians - Bad Case of History

Man, I've seriously OD'ed on Robyn Hitchcock.

But I'm still kind of enjoying it.

fans of the church would do well to look into this. miles ahead of that new album, imo, which just kinda retreads "the church sound" they've had on their latest bunch of rekkids....

I like it but I like almost everything I've heard from Shepp. I wouldn't say its one of his better albums though. It is free jazz but not the least bit unaccessable. I can't compare it to New York Contemporary jazz which I've never heard. Don Cherry doesn't play on this one though.

First listen. Pretty good. Probably something the machine should hunt down as its one of those overblown all-star casts that we both gravitate to...Jesse Ed Davis on guitar, Dr. John on piano, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt on backup vocals, Red Rhodes on Pedal Steel, etc etc.
