It shocks me how many people so easily dismiss Ziggy.

I don't know about "dismissing". It was the first Bowie album I bought after moving on from his greatest hits, and I was always underwhelmed by the album tracks (so a little over half of it). Because of that, it was a while before I got around to any of his other albums.

I've come around to it a little, but it's still not one of my favorites.

Just curious, but what 5 Bowie albums do you think are better than Ziggy?

<---voted Doolittle

3) Scary Monsters

"Fashion" is one of my all-time favorite Bowie songs, but you are crazy.

That's actually one of my least fave songs on that album. I love the title track, Ashes to Ashes is my all-time fave Bowie track, Teenage Wildlife has some amazing lead guitar, Scream Like a Baby, the Verlaine cover...

C'mon, Matt. WE ARE THE GOON SQUAD AND WE'RE COMING TO TOWN BEEP BEEP!

lol

You're right about "Ashes to Ashes," though. My mama said to get things done you'd better not mess with Major Tom.

My major problem with Fashion is the same problem I have with Rebel Rebel and Jean Genie - cool song for the first several times you hear it, then it's repetitive and boring. The album version of Fashion is absurdly long. Love Fripp's guitar though.

Radiohead made the cut as well.

Watch That Man is the best Bowie song.

I fucking love Ziggy, but Doolittle pretty well defined the 15 years after it.

Low
Hunky Dory
Station to Station
Aladdin Sane
Scary Monsters

Possibly in that order. Depending on the day I might also say Lodger. Just always liked it more, personally.

I like the Man Who Sold The World and Low better than Ziggy. I voted Ziggy, but five minutes later I could vote Pixies. I know this is probably heresy here, but Black Francis/Frank Black's solo work has diminished what I hear in the Pixies.

Really, eh? What is it in his solo work that you find lacking?

This week its "Kooks" :D

I read harry's statement to mean that because Frank Black is so good it has diminished his appreciation of his earlier work with the Pixies (something that is pretty much true for me) but I guess it could be read the other way too.

Ah, as I read it harry knows that FB is quite beloved by some of us around here and he's finds that his solo work has sullied the Pixies, hence the heresy.

Also I think both Hunky Dory and Aladdin Sane need to get some play today.
