He's leading the British Open...if he wins he'll be the oldest person ever to win a golf major.

Damn paper. I was just coming on here to put up a British Open final round thread. I'm loving this wake up and watch Major Championship golf morning. Guess this is how the west coast feels for the Masters.

I'm certainly pulling for the old man. I also had to clean my eyes when I saw that John Daly was tied for 14th at the start of the day. Looks like he's already dropped a stroke though.

I'm glad Tiger missed the cut. Otherwise I think they'd still follow his every shot and it would take away from Watson's potential moment.

This has the makings of an incredible day. There are around 9-10 guys with a legit shot at winning today.

What's funny is that Mark Calcavecchia (sp?) is 49 and was within a stroke or two most of the weekend and in any other situation he would be the story.

But, Watson is 20 YEARS older than he is. Incredible.

10 years older actually....if he was 69 that would be ridiculous.

Yeah, I get a little sick of how the media covers these tournaments. I realize it's all about the benjamins and Tiger brings the cash, but there's no reason to follow his every movement when there are better stories going on elsewhere.

I love Sundays at majors...this should be a good one.

Also, question, has Tiger not being in it affected your interest (if you had any to begin with)?

Obviously, it's to the PGA's benefit and detriment that he's so good and the #1 player in the world. When he's in it people have more interest. Hell, I'M more interested when he's in contention but it's to their detriment that when he's not their ratings plummet. To me, it's dangerous to have all your eggs in one basket but that's not the PGA's fault he's so good.

I think I'd rather him miss the cut if he's not going to be in contention. If he's going to be 10 strokes back and not really going to be a factor the networks will still follow him and take the focus of of the guy winning the thing IMO.

I mean, who can remember who won the US Open? Me neither. That's a problem for the sport.

It hasn't affected my interest this time because of the Watson story, but when Tiger was out for however many months for surgery, yeah I hardly watched golf at all.

It is a problem, no one cares about Lucas Glover....The sport needs another player to challenge Tiger, both in terms of charisma and skill. Everyone thought Mickelson would be the guy, but he really hasn't been.

Yeah I hate that crap too.

Add in the fact that they preempted snuffaluffagus for this bullshit and I'm ready to go Dillinger Prison Escape on PGA HQ.

Let's go old man - you still have 5 good holes in you!

I agree, this is an oddly exciting Sunday... The only thing that would make it better is if Rocco was in it.

Another question, anyone know how a player's nationality is decided with regards to this tourney?

I know in the Olympics, isn't Great Britain represented by the Union Jack even if you are from Scotland, England, or North Ireland?

Why the separation here? Because it's an individual sport?

Just an observation.

This shit is awesome.

Watson has 2 shots from about 25 feet for birdie and Westwood is in jail on 18.

Breathe Tom. Breathe.

Yeah. This is great television.

Really pulling for TW. One shot lead going into 18. Unbelievable.
